Hey Tim, u got me thinking again. What about a mid mounted RB30DETT using an Alfa transaxle?? U get a full IRS system at the back. No weight what so ever in front of the front wheels. Just a fully fabricated front end with huge brakes and room for a huge intercooler. I guess the whole chassis will almost have to be fabricated for the transaxle IRS setup aswell. Wont be 4wd but who gives a toss, it will go damn bloody hard i rekon. Traction may be a problem i would assume :) Now wouldnt that be a weapon!! Scott Davo

I'm not familiar with the RB30DETT. What is it out of? Is it a Nissan V6? I thought the FWD setup from a Maxima (not sure what that is across the ocean) with the twin turbo 300Z engine would be fun. 300+ horsepower over the rear wheels with nothing up front would probable do wheelies!

RB30DETT is out of the twin turbo 300ZX fairlady, which for Australians is a private import only. It's a rather underpowered engine especially for it's size and turbos, but I'm sure it has plenty of potential. The 300ZX is a heavy car, and needs more power to make things interesting. But in a 1200 or 1600, I expect brown underpants will be a standard fitment. Chris

Alfa stuff would be too expensive, I'd be getting a Toyota MR2 rear cut, after a local hoon has removed the engine to install into his non-turbo MR2. This would cost almost nothing, the mating fabrication could hurt, but if supra boxes can be adapted to A series then this couldn't be too much different.. Not that I'm encouraging this kind of time wasting, but I agree it sounds interesting. The car would be undriveable. I'd rather make up a 30 foot stretched 1200 convertible for the Summer Nats....kick ass.

Whoops. I meant the RB25dett. The engine out of the godzilla Skyline Gts-t. The straight 6 ones not the V6. These engines go hard trust me!! The engine in the 300zx is a VG30dett V6. These things go hard aswell with a bit of work. The MR2 setup could only be used with a Sr20det or FJ20det as its still an east west configuration. Hrmm. What about the VG30dett with MR2 setup. There still relativly a short engine. I think theres thousands of ways to make the "Ultimate 1200" Alltho the 30ft 1200 Convertable Summernat cruiser would have to be the best damn ride in OZ!! Are you sure of the engine designation here. I thought the RB30 was the Skyline, Patrol and VL Commodore 3 litre straight six. I'm sure I've read that it was only ever used in the Australian market. I have never heard of it in Japanese spec vehicles and definately never in twin turbo form. I thought the late model 300ZX all ran the VG30 in either normally aspired, single or twin turbo. A friend of mine has a twin turbo 300 and I'm sure its the VG30. The 1200 would be too light to run a rear engine and the Alfa transaxle is not light either with the Di Dion rear end.

When I win the Lottery, I will get me an 8-door stretch 1200 Limo, with a twin turbo Nissan President V8 w/ intercooled valve covers.

Yeah, that would be cool. I always wanted to build a 1200 street rod. You know, chopped, lowered, custom paint etc. etc. However, sanity and my wallet prevailed. It's nice to dream though.

Let's see, we've heard about all kinds of different conceptual "ultimate 1200's". I'm thinking that we have a few ultimate 1200's already in our club. Here are my votes. For best all around performance one cannot pass up Andrew Denniss's(ca18det_man) turbo 1200 coupe. His car is a daily driver that sees the 1/4 mile, road racing, & some rally. It's probably one of the quickest 1200's in the club. For the category of best looking modified car I'd have to vote for Bob Marcy's (bobs1200) SCCA solo car. I'll bet Bob's car could out corner most 1200's in the club. And finally my vote for the best original unrestored 1200 would have to go to Knut Fossum's (dats4ever) red 1200 coupe. It's in, like-new condition with it's original tires. I know that one could come up with many more 'favourites'. Who has the best Ute, V8, electric, etc? With 300+ members in the club there will be 300+ different opinions, many with different choices than mine. I think that it would be neat to have a members vote carshow online. What favorites can you think of?
