ok so "sitting" wasn't the right word.
i just meant to say that unlike the standard xmembers that bolt the gbox to the x member, the one i have on my T50 set up has the gearbox on rubber mounts (about an ich high) on the xmember. which is bolted to the floor with 2 nuts on each side and a plate inside the cabin with bolts welded to it that go through the floor. inbetween the plate and the floor and the xmember and the floor is 3mm rubber to stop any vibrations. it is made such that the gearbox cannot move in the tunnel as it is such a tight fit so there is no need to bolt it to the gearbox

There are alot of members on this site that installed different gearboxes in their datsuns that the original gearbox mountings fitted inside the tunnel are not adequate for.
Some people that will be of good assistance are: B120dat kululadotgroen (installing a 4AGZE with turbo and a toyota gearbox) Converted WhiteSedan There are pictures in B120dat's album about his gearbox crossmember. Who is the member again with the neat and tidy green 1200 with CA18DET engine in it? I cannot remember right now, but he also has a custom gearbox crossmember. Send the mentioned members PM's and ask them for advice. You will have to install a rubber mount between the gearbox and the custom gearbox Crossmember so that the gearbox can flex when torque is applied to it. If there is not a rubber mount your gearbox will try to flex and in time tear your floor open if you go the gearbox crossmember bolted through floor plan route. Unfortunately I do not know how to glue or fix the rubber to the custom crossmember and then again to the metal plate that will be bolted to the gearbox. I think it is not a good idea to just let the gearbox rest loosly on the custom crossmember. It is unsafe and will cause shuddering. It must be fixed using rubber mounts.

you're gonna want to bolt the gearbox to the crossmember... and the floor is fine, just make a large surface area and have big sandwich plates on the inside. Otherwise make the crossmember wider and bolt it to the floor and the chassis rails.
Hopefully the torque will be taken up by the engine mounts not the gearbox mounts

the floor wil be strong enough depending on how you mount the gearbox to the crossmember? do you plan to bolt the gbox to the xmembber or just have it sitting on it.
if its just gonna sit on it then the floor in a datsun is plenty strong enough. its only that if you plan to bolt the gbox to the xmember that you get the torque transferred through the xmember and that will need to be much stronger. You can view topic.
