but if the engine is already out of the car, and in pieces, its just easier to do everything whilst its out instead of putting it in to the car, n then testing it n then deciding on more power or wateva...saves going to the hassle of having to pull it out n stripping it it a second time

It's a real eye opener when you drive a light car with 200rwkw. I drove a Skyline with 225rwkw (a heavy R33) - when the torque came on it just about broke your neck!

My current street car has around 240rwkw with even more weight - but still has plently of juice.

200+rwkw might be a bit uncomfortable/deadly on the streets - especially in the rain.

Why not get the car running and see if you are happy with the stock power, maybe just retune the computer (add more boost).

Then if you are not happy spend the next $5k to get it going a bit quicker.

I used to think if a car didn't run down the quarter in 10sec then it was slow, then after actually driving some 13sec and 12 sec cars everyday - I think I'm happiest with 13sec streeters, much more gets a bit hairy/deadly.

Entirely up to you, but I strongly recommend try before you buy.

Have a look at these articles on turbophile:

CA18 Street TunerProven recipes to get your CA-powered S13 cooking

CA18 shakedown

its also been my general understanding that to run a reasonable amount of horsepower (200rwkw) the most you are going to need is forged pistons(posibly not even these), upgraded turbo/injectors, front mount intercooler and a tune.

Check out this website for turbo's as well. I think their prices are better than average:

Her name is Kirstie.

I keep telling her she can't run quicker then 11sec flat quarters otherwise you gotta install a roll cage. 200rwkw should push the ute into the 11s easy.

So what is your name whoridas girl??

as for the 200rwkw...can we try n go a lil more? u know i want to get GOOD power..not just decent power

200rwkw in a ute would be pretty insane

I used to run 170rwkw many years ago on the street in my coupe was nice and smooth drivable and capable of 12 flat down the quarter in full street trim. I personally would build up a tough engine run say 14-15psi for the street and wind it up for the drags or special occasion.
cheers

Thanks Andrew, some helpful advice. Would a fair budget be something like this?

Cams = 1k, pistons = 1k, turbo = 2k and computer = 2k, bareing in mind these are all new parts (touch wood we can find some of the gear second hand).

My wife stated it before, she wants a nice streeter with enough power for the occasional run. 200rwkw is probably an affordable achievement, with a shot of NOS to get the quarter mile times down.

Luke you can use my name now instead of referring to me as " my wife"

Hey Whorida, why don't you also have a look at some of the ECU's that are made in ZA. Have a look at these sites.

Dicktator
Gotech

I'm personally going to run the Dictator, and more of the guys that make big power use them. Not that there aren't cars that make the bigun's that use the Gotech tough.

After some research and asking around, it seems the Dicktator is the easier and more accurate to set up of the bunch. Their site doesn't look as pro, but I guess they rather spend their resources on making the comp right.

Their prices are very good, and they come with universal wiring harnesses, instructions and programming software.

Just a suggestion, as people seem to look past the Wolf and others that are available, and rather go for these over here...

ah thats a good price then (rebuild install and wire up)

have you been in a ca18 powered 1200? they are fast in standard form. a neat streeter would be nuts with a standard ca with a little extra boost.

a "stage 2" kinda setup that is on the cheap but still faster would be some 444 gtr injectors ($200 max) s15bb turbo or similar ($600ish) and some boost. Any aftermarket ecu should be able to get 190kw at the wheels out of this with about 18psi (on a fresh standard engine). this should equal a high eleven second quarter with some sticky slicks and more than a handful on the street with a planting of your right boot.
