a radiator? even NASA calls them radiators.
3 pages for that...
That box where the blower gets the fresh air from outside that's the plenum as someone in the first page said. I never call it that, seems plenum is the name given to things that don't need a special name but get one anyway... it's frequently used in applications of air movings like intakes and HVAC, cat5 network cables come in plenum which means you can run them in air ducts...
the cowl covers the plenum.
beer and ale are differnt products...

I seem to remember that a plenum was supposed to be a chamber, with a reasonable volume, where air came into it in a turbulent & high velocity state, then stabilised & slowed, before being drawn off to do whatever it was used for.
The effect is supposed to be a bit like the stilling pond at the bottom of a dam's spillway.

In the case of the cowl/scuttle plenum, the air from outside a fast moving car is drawn in through whatever opening is provided & 'calmed' before being drawn into the passenger compartment for ventilation.

Similarly, the plenum in a tunnel ram manifold is used to 'calm' [a relative term] the fuel/air mix that is rushing in from the carbs. It also dampens the pressure waves, or pulses, from the individual runners to the cylinders, leading to more stable airflow & more reliable carburetion.

Well, ... that's what I read in a magazine somewhere.

Well "sunnys" right, it is a heat exchanger BUUUUTTTT... ... if NASA calles it a radiator then it MUST be a radiator. That was too easy, I will try and come up with a better question.
