Not wanting to start an argument or hijack this thread, but I think 170hp at the flywheel is quite achieveable with a n/a pushrod motor, I wouldn't be far off that (or even maybe more) now.

I could be wrong also, but if this is indeed an ex Shell-sport car, then suely it would have been snapped up by someone with in the racing circles, due to its history and competitiveness and would have never have made it to the "Trade-Me" auction site.

Quite right Converted, but looking at the photos you would have to wonder wouldn't you? I see few tell tale signs of a big budget, highly developed engine which if indeed it is then the rest of the car is lacking way behind. Then of course there's the age old argument of where and on whose dyno did these figures come from, because that is huge horsepower.
But hey, I could be barking up the wrong tree here although I have been pondering over this over the last few hours and the more that I look at the pictures the less it resembles the Shellsport coupes that I remember back in the 80's- some were rough but there were some very clever cars being raced.
It will be interesting to see where the market sees this car when the auction closes.
Cheers
Dave

136 at wheels is a seriously highly highly developed A series platform. Jeff Taylor could get around 126 out of John Taylors engine with 1600knife edge roller cam and rockers and 50mm quads with motec. That must be a serious engine and worth buying the car just for that.

No DD,
In fact if that car did actually get raced in Shellsport then it would have been very much making up numbers at the rear of the field.
As one of the questions asked to the seller says all the Shellsport cars that I have ever seen have had big firewall cuts and motor setbacks.whereas that one appears to be in the stock position.
Also look at the top hats on the struts- nothing clever there at all.
In all honesty it looks like a club car and a fairly rough one at that although 136 at the wheels is nothing to be sneered at.

Is it one of the "wide body" Shellsport coupes?
