Cheers for the comments Boof.

I just re-read your post. Sorry, I missed the last part of it. Skimming too quickly obviously.

I noticed that my car was nicer to drive when I set my rear Koni reds to full soft. Anyway, hope it helps.
Matty

That's something to give a try thanks matty.

I have the koni's wound right up to stiffest. I think I'm going to back the koni's off and try to fit a 120y swaybar. I have a feeling my motor is sitting slightly forward of where yours is ben so it might be an issue with the bar on the sump.

if the standard 1200 sway bar fits i dont see a reason why a 120y one wouldnt, as they just bend down more...they arnt any closer to the engine

Dave,
I have been thinking about this long and hard overnight and here are some thoughts;
From what you have said you are happy with the way the car turns in ( and I presume exits ) and the fact that it doesn't understeer on the exit of a corner with a mini spool would tend to indicate that you have got your spring rates, or more to the point their relativities pretty well sorted.
At this stage then I would be reluctant to change the front bar for something stiffer without doing the same to the rear as you will in theory unload the front end that may well induce understeer.
The placement of your motor is perhaps something to consider as obviously the further back you can get it the more weight off the front end and that should relly help things.
The last time that I raced the SSS I did play around with the droop on the front end using some steel cables and turnbuckles and setting the tension on the cables such that they just started to pull the front end down with the car stationary. This made a huge difference to the way the car felt through the turns and although I have had my strut insert shafts shortened to the point where if you jack the front end up the springs stay captive, I never pursued it further to the point of making the droop adjustable. The theory here was that you are using your unsprung weight to hold the car flatter in the turns.
Also worth considering is that if you decide to get a custom swaybar made remember to get the shape altered to accomodate the changes in castor/ camber- I assume that you are using rod ends on you lower arms to achieve -3 degrees? Either that or small rod ends on the end of the bar and lower arm to let things move freely.
Also I would definetly make the rear bar adjustable. What I find with the turbo white car was that 1/2 '' either way was the difference between understeer/ nuetral/ oversteer.
Keep in touch on this one as I'm very keen to hear how you get on sorting this out.
Cheers
Dave

Thanks for the in depth response B110, Much appreciated.

I'm a little confused as to why the droop cables would make the car go any faster. It would understandably make it sit flatter through a corner but aren't you putting more load on the outside wheels by encouraging the car to pick up the inside?

I'm also using camber tops to achieve all the camber. An adjustable lower control arm would be good as there is a little bit of room in the guards to increase the track but I just can't afford it all at the moment unfortunately.

thanks again

dave

Dave,
From memory ( 11 odd years ago now ! ) I don't think that it made any appreciable difference to lap times BUT the car felt much nicer and 'flatter' through the turns.
Turn in was unchanged so if it was loading up the outside front it wasn't showing it.
If you think about it though would a sway bar not be doing the same thing ie loading up the outer wheel as it unloads the inner?
Cheers
Dave

They are doing close to the same thing but not quite. The sway bar is actually adding to the spring rate on the outside wheel from the difference in displacement of the two front struts and therefore decreasing the compression of the outside strut and reducing body roll.

what front struts are you using again dave ?? would it be hard to set up a way pre load the front springs giving the same effect that B110's suggesting ??
i know there alot of coilover setups for later models with this availability and it makes for alot more adjustment in the front end settings ...
