Hey Andy, I do understand what you are saying. The GTR's are awesome to drive on and off the road. I suppose you will just have to put the thinking cap on as you currently own the fastest track 1200 in Australia and I love watching the jaws drop on peoples faces when you blow by in it Stick a set of slicks on your 1200 and it would do a 1.05 at wakefield..how many cars can do that?? The fastest road GTR I have seen at wakefield is the BERRY car and it is a weapon. It did a 1.04 at wakefield but how much have they spent on it??

ah, the Newman/Berry GTR.. that thing has been wiping the floor at all the street sprints up here for the last year. Seriously fast car.

For comparison he runs low 55s at QR Sprint track, I've only been there once on Federal 595SS and ran 1:01.5 (I was trying to win the street tyre class...) I would expect a solid 49, maybe a high 48 on semis.

At Mt Cotton, he's only been there a couple of times and runs low 45s I think. I know the place like the back of my hand, which is a big advantage, but only took the GTR there twice with a best 46.2 (that was on the Bridgestone semis). There's no doubt the Berry GTR can go a sec or two quicker there with more track knowledge.

the GTR is awesome on the open road. Country drives are pretty much all I use it for. I've been toying with the idea of selling it for a while, but every time I drove it I just couldn't bring myself to advertise it...

I forgot one thing - I've got a car trailer and can deliver the car as far as Sydney for the cost of fuel for the return trip.

Hey Bozman you must lurk on 1200.com quite a lot dont seem to miss out on too much
Ahh well I fixed the two loose turbo flange nuts that came loose after sand trap at oran park well more like mud trap.(have captive nuts now.)
The main reason id like a gtr is that can be driven normally around and occasional track day to have a bit of fun. I dont get to use the 1200 anywhere as much as id like.I could rego it but I need my license plus country roads would be very harsh on the suspension.

yeah I knew you were joking mate. And I don't want to give the GTR away

It's definitely harder to work on - the engine bay is pretty full like most modern cars, but its been very reliable. the only issues I've had were a TPS, a CV boot, and a leaking rear subframe bush at Bathurst 2005 just after I bought it.

The engine is basically standard, with standard ceramic turbos and standard boost. Only engine mods I know of are those it came with:
Mines ECU
Bee*R powerbuilder BOV's
3.5" HKS SuperDragger exhaust
HKS pod filters

it goes better than most mild GTRs and handles very well - got that the 3rd outright at Bathurst Mountain Straight Hillclimb against those more powerful GTR's that beat me the day before on Conrod. And its faster than alot of heavily worked STi's and Evo's at Mt Cotton. Its also beaten some of the top 5 Dutton guys in the QLD Challenge rally when I was only on the Federal 595s against their semi slicks. And that was before the suspension tweaks I did at the start of the year with the adjustable upper arms in the front, offset bushes in the rear upper arms, alloy subframe alignment kit, more aggressive geometry and the wider wheels.

I'm not sure the clutch is anything fancy. When I was test driving them, this one felt like it took a bit more pedal effort and was more positive than the others, but I doubt there's anything flash behind the stock engine.

Anyway, have a think about it - I'm pretty keen on the idea even though I'd miss out on the extra cash that would have been useful.

As good as Andrews car is (as I have been lucky enough to drive it) an AWD would always be faster on a damp track. Having done a fair bit of work with GTR's..as I owned one for 4 years and am about to debut our improved production R32 GTR in 4 weeks, I love them!! For fun value, you would have Andrews 1200 hands down as it is one of those very rare cars that gets me excited when I drive it.

Saying that, if I had the $$ I would buy both Harrys and Andrews cars

Everybody get lost as I am calling Harry

Harry I was only joking about the racing for pinks The 1200 dosnt do too bad in the wet or tight windy stuff just a mater of using less throttle the new engine is very grunty even with the cams was short shifting at around 4000rpm and still catching most the 4wd turbos.
Im still seriously thinking about the 1200-GTR deal. Ill think about it more during the week. The only thing that worries me is the GTR would be a lot harder and expensive to work on.What would come with the GTR??Im pretty sure it was basically stock other than suspension and clutch???
The 1200 is pretty well sorted as is. Could probably do with a bit of suspension tuning but other than that is all good.
Ill give you a call some time during the week.
Cheers Andrew

normal street tyres, not semi slicks ;)

I've been head to head in the GTR against Andrew's coupe and know how fast it is! I'd need him at a severe traction disadvantage with lots of low speed corners to try and put all that power down and no big straights to stretch his legs.

there's a tight smooth dirt autocross track up here that would probably suit me pretty well!
