I do

What hasn't been mentioned so far (I think) is, once you get your strut, disc, caliper chosen, what's needed to get it into the Datto?

With a 180B or 200B strut, for example, do we need to change the knuckle arm/outer tie rod? (I'm guessing yes)

Is there a strut where you don't have to (to use the Commo caliper for example)?

Cheers,

TC

EDIT - My ute is an 84 - would that make a difference? This thread suggests changing balljoint, control arm, steering arm, tie rod.
However, in this thread, Whitesedan suggests late model ute/120Y should be ok for balljoints...

if you have a later 120y, the 200B fits right up, and never needs use any commodore parts.

actually, using any of those struts you do the same thing to get the stanza or sunny struts in

which is just stanza or sunny control arms, ball joints, steering arms, outer tierod ends and tierods
using the original 120y swaybar and radious rod

might be able to use a commodore caliper on the standard 1200 coupe or 120y struts, as they have the same type of caliper as sunny and 180b....so might have the same bolt spacing

im unsure on these late 120y and ute struts, pretty sure the ute ones are the same as 1200 coupe....but will find out when i buy my next ute

im assuming by late 120y they are the girlock ones? ive only ever seen one of these in person and it diddnt look to be much different to the standard old ones
yet to see any pics with measurements to show that they are infact bigger

and if 200b stuff bolts straight on one would assume that these struts are just stanza struts used from factory(if they also use the larger steering arm), which would also make you think that they used stanza control arms and stuff too......any one know for sure?

Hmm... yeah I think the lates are Girlock. Maybe Whitesedan was referring to the real late Bakkie which has a Girlock caliper also.

Mines an 84 but not late enough I'm thinking (it has the old crappy calipers on it )

Thanks Pigdog, grand Datto brake master (no pun intended )

yeah the one im looking at getting is 84 model i think, and it has the crappy ones im pretty sure

weird that they would use good stuff on the late 120ys, then go back to the crappy stuff for the utes....or were the utes fully imported?

vl calipers and stanza struts may not work, what is the bolt spacing on the stanza struts?
you would need the early 80mm bolt spacing ones, not the later 3.5 inch ones
also id look for some 180b struts, better platform to start from as they have shorter shocks

you will want 180b struts then(umm think they are a 610 or 710...forget which one)
audi discs you want are DBA part number 2241....but dont know if that helps you in NZ
they are 275x25mm and come off 1989-92 audi 90 2.3 litre 20v and quattro 90 20v from 88-92
centre of the disc would need to be bored out to 73m and 4 new holes drilled to mount it to the hub

but by the looks of the offset you would need a 7mm spacer between the caliper and the strut....which makes the thread left going into the strut very small

with 929 discs you only need a 4mm spacer and verada ones you need a 1.5mm spacer

caliper will just bolt straight on, need to run the calipers at the front to clear the steering arm, so strut would be swapped left to right
probably use commodore brake lines(flexi)

only thing better about the audi disks is that they are 4 stud so then new bolt holes driled wont be close to the old ones, will most likely cost around the same new as the other 2...but you wont be likley to find second hand ons to experiment with, unlike the other 2

id be going the verada disc if i were you

oh and if you go stanza struts, you want the ones that come with the calipers that look like the ones on your 120y
