yes it is true that it has been done,

i still don't agree with the slightly stiffer springs on the drivers side.. in a track car moving components and adding weight is the only way to compensate for the drivers weight, not changing spring height or stiffness.. that would make it very hard to set the car up correctly.

anyone that has a backround in circut racing(bogans no included) can back me up here..

1200gxman what is true???

Only the part that driver's weight can make a difference with regard to ride height. That is why the driver's side springs are slightly firmer. But only slightly.

Definately not that you can distribute weight by ajusting ride height. That won't work.

My dad in the 70's owned a Datsun 1600SSS. I think they are on your side the 510's. He needed to replace the front springs for some reason. Apparently the right one was a different colour (or had a coloured marking) from the left one to indicate which one must come on which side due to the one being a little stiffer to compensate for driver's weight.

do u really think that is the proper way to distribute weight evenly???
i don't doubt that it has been done before with some success.. we go about things differently these days though..

getting a bit off topic now and as harry said" for a street car it's all wank factor"

coops
ive got a set of coilover 240k struts with koni inserts u may want..

The boys at Ian's place lit up when I started talking about suspension and what I should do about it. It's faily simmilar to this thread actually.

How do u know that the drivers side is heavier until u put it on the corner scales and jump in??

u need to move components/urself to shift the weight and at worst u add weight.

well doesnt the drivers side need to be slighty harder/higher or set differently?.. as the driver is sitting on that side. average 70kg but sould be someone up to 100kg +.... This would have to be factored into setting up the suspesion for race track?

yep thats right..

don't jack up the car..
Look for the shiny bit measure the length, that is the travel.. not much left with a boat anchor bolted to the front

The idea of coil over is that you can put the car on some scales and get the weights evenly distributed. you can't do this with a fixed height system. If doing any track work, getting the weights right is very important....this should be done before chasing any "handling issues" you may/will experience.

who told u that???
i would never set the car to a different height on the right to the left unless racing around a speedway track or oval circut....

corner wieghting should be done by moving components, adding weight etc... not using the coilovers.

Coops,
look at how much suspension travel u have with the ca18 in it. maybe 2" travel before u hit the bumpstop!! This is bad already.
if u don't want to lower the car no worries get some decent inserts and harder springs.. maybe the gemini progressive rate springs are heavier than the 1200"s??? it will handle better but is that all u want???

if u want to lower it a litte bit it will drop the centre of gravity+++, but u are going to need a lot more travel to drive on a track, even on hard braking without bouncing on the bumpstops.. that is unless u are running 300p springs???

shorten the strut, weld on coilovers, get decent inserts, 175p springs minimum..

So what part on the shock bottoms out?
I'm guessing the top of the shock insert tube....
