#1 turbo trouble

have had my ute running basically half finished for over a year now, and sumthings finally gone... turbo/turbo seals (yet to find out all the details yet) it happend the sarvy, smoke everywhere not good.

im tryin to weigh up wat i want, wether to go more mods for morefun.
OR just replace with another T25 or maybe goin a 2nd hand t28 or sumtihn similar.

its all a learning curve for me atm i know basically jack.

any thorts on the subject??

i'll be looking for a decent mechanic/performance shop too if theres any recomendations

dude just get a s15 bb t28 they are way big enough to make more than enough power on stock motor doesnt make much lag difference as its bigger but its bb not bush so not much change. i have done this mod and am more than happy.

if you think about it to get more power you all so have to build the motor to suit the turbo if you went to go bigger if not you end up with max turbo lag

Umm... my CA is currently getting rebuilt with a T28 on it and the guy who owns the shop said that it will make hardly any difference to the lag like Kegs said. Aiming for 150 kw with slightly more boost than stock on an otherwise stock motor.... well I MIGHT buy a microtech. But he swears that it will cause very little more lag.... and he's built dozens of them, so... I sank your battleship.

PurpleJim - I assume you mean the .60/.64 T28? If this is the T28 you will be using then yes, the difference in lag will be minimal. If you are using one of the bigger T28 models then obviously lag will be increased.

i have just changed from a T25g to a t28, approx 500rpm slower coming on boost but has more top end, around the streets the t25g was a great little turbo, nearly no lag and very responsive. the t25g is still for sale

Hey Matty,
Yep, using the smaller T28, not the GTi-R one. Good to hear you guys confirm what the engine guy said, I never trust workshops anymore until I see the results first hand. Still in the first phase of the rebuild though where the engine sits on a tyre in the back of the shop until someone trips over it 4 weeks later and remembers it's there.

Would going from a t25g turbo to a t28 .60/.64 T28 turbo, would you need to increase the intercooler size? 450x300/75.

is there a huge power difference going a T28 over a standard t25, obviously boost and other engine mods come into it, but is it a dramatic change???

are non-genuine turbo's worth buying? fella at work is tryin to talk me into one, not really keen on the idea to be honest

i dont trust workshops that much either PurpleJim

hopefully i can get some ideas at the meet on monday nite about what to do

just buy a t28bb. great turbo. nice upgrade. theyre not even that dear anymore. well worth the money. straight bolt up. or pretty close anyways.
