I rang up the motor registry in the ACT a few weeks ago to stop to finally get a definate answer to these questions with all guesses and second hand info people were givin me about weights and things so here is what i got told...
Tare weight of a 1984 1200 ute = 720 kg any vehicle weighting less than 800kg biggest naturally apsirated engine: Tare weight x 3.0 = engine size so 720 x 3 = 2160 Biggest turbo/supercharged engine: Tare weight x 2.5 = engine size so 720 x 2.5 = 1800 So you are really limited now to NA SR20's or hypo 4AG variations or CA18DET's and 4AGZE's. I'm not saying this is gospel across the board in Aus but in the ACT the rules are now the same as in NSW. Hope this helps
