if you are keen, you could try the e16T from the Exa. came with and without a turbo. The Exa is a fwd, but aparently its not a hard swap. I hve never tried it, but have benn told that the a series box is just one bolt different from the e series setup.
Would still reccommend the A15 thoough.

dont think its the smartest thing to attempt putting a FWD engine into RWD car, lots of problems waiting to happen
4AGZE is the way to go, or maybe a 2tc turbo....not an import though but 4agze is a fwd engine as well...

Heres something to think about... If you are restricted to using a 1600, then you could consider obtaining a ca16 twin cam motor (or a block would be better), and then get hold of a ca18de motor or if wanted a det. Then, if you can read between the lines, (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) Use the ca16 block ;), and its associated engine numbers, and replace its internals with ca18 items, if you get my drift... It may also be of note to those doing conversions on 1200's that there is available a sr18 and i think but im not 100% sure, a sr16 motor available which with a little imagination could make a sr20det datsun legal in those states that dont allow a 2 litre turbo in a 1200. Of course, this is all theoretical, and may or may not have been done before to great effect.
