Does anyone know what inserts are put into these 120y strut/silvia brake combinations because I can see finding a good insert would be a downside to using the 120y strut,

Does the Late 120y strut and B120 (later model 1200 ute) strut use the same insert, is this insert the same as the earlier models, im assuming it is.

Then do these struts share the same wheel bearing?

I know late 120y and B120's share the same balljoint which is the same length as the earlier model but with the larger bolting pattern to the lower control arm, but is the steering arm the same dimensions as the earlier model but with the larger hole for the balljoint and larger bolt spacing for the strut?

late steering arms have bigger balljoint hole but are otherwise the same as early ones...bolt pattern the same as early ones

and from what i saw of the ute that i got these steering arms from, struts are the same as early ones

Ahh, I thought they allowed the larger struts to bolt up.

This would be the same for the later 120y as well I guess.

well i'm not sure, i remember reading somewhere that it's possible to just drill out some more holes 10mm on my current crossmember. is this true? if it is i'll just do that, otherwise i'll just want new arms asap.

so are you also saying that i'd be able to use 'the larger nissan struts' as in R31 and the like?

Only the 1200 and 120y struts share the early bolt spacing on the bottom of the strut.

All nissan struts from sunny to Z31 300ZX will bolt to the later steering arm. R31 struts require a sheer load spacer that sits between the steering arm and strut base.

I have 280zx struts in my racecar using the stanza lower arm setup and MR30 struts in the daily using the same stanza conversion parts.

Hey Whitesedan
We used escort inserts in our 120y struts and spaced them in the tube to suit. The stroke is about the same but they have a shorter body than 120y ones. We have done the S13 brake conversion and reckon its great. We have done a sprint meeting at winton with absolutely no fade.
Cheers
Bob
