Just cut the tunnel out of the commodore. the first 30-40 cms should be enough. there is actually heaps of room in the 1000. the only real stumbling point will be the exhaust manifolds..... (so far)

you probably dont have to cut as much as me for the tunnel, ute is a few cm off the ground and auto was tucked way up so not to hit stuff, so the whole auto is above floor level

as its a series 1 motor modding the exhaust manifolds shouldnt be a problem(should have mild steel manifolds), havnt got around to that on mine yet either...just cut them so they fit in

The motor i'm going to use is a series 2. the manifolds appear to be shorter so they should clear everything nicely

This is possibly the most awsome conversion ever done for a 1k. The dunny dore v6 has so much potential to proform, and in a 1k with so little weight. Oh yeah baby.

Just dont try and turn too many corners

Today I re fitted the motor with suspension and steering in place.

I have modified the sump to sit the motor about 40mm back towards the fire wall.

With the top control arms in place i will have to make some custom headers.

I have also cut out the trans tunnel to suit the VN trans which I will post some more photos when its all trimmed up and the box is in place

God damn that is such a good fit! Minimal mods to the sump too! How much bigger do you have to make the trans tunnel? And how are you gonna strengthen the whole thing so it doesnt just twist in half?

Looks like you've been busy Adam!

I plan to use the commodore tunnel (well some of it anyway). and will stitch weld the seams and have some sort of half cage in it. Its all fitting a lot better than I had expected.

Cheers. Adam.

What if you swap the manifold so they are pointing up? Would you run twin stacks or twin high mounts?

I did think of that but the manifolds are not symmetrical so custom jobbies are the go. have thought of the twin turbo set up too but funnily enough ive run out of room
