is it 180b or 200b struts that a landcruiser 4 spot bolts onto? and also what discs would you use on 180b/200b strut with landcruiser 4 spots to make them fit under 13's?

200b struts, 60 series cruiser calipers and s13 silvia discs

180b struts take commodore calipers
so vr vs calipers and 274x24 magna discs
or any up to vp, V8 and turbo models exluded, calipers and some kinda 260ish mm disc

cruiser calipers and s13 disc fit under 13's?

should do, might not fit under all 13s
but will stand a fighting chance with most

can I just clear this up, there is no difference in the strut and stub of a 1600 180b/200b stanza other than the brakes and spring cups? I'm asking because I want to build up some custom front struts, all I require is 50mm tube size and a good thick stub so I can fit bilstein inserts and custom brakes to. If there is any difference which would be the best/easiest for my application?

They all have different angles from stub to strut, strut tube length varies and spring cups are different. Find the length of your bilsteins and use the strut that will fit best, you can get spacers machined to fit underneith the insert if you have to take up a few mm.

If you have adjustability in your tops and lower arm, you would want to get a strut with a lot of wheel clearance, 280zx and R30/R31 and Bluebird are all like this.

All wheel bearings are identical for anything from sunny all the way to Z31 300ZX.

See here for lengths of different struts.

cheers for that, the bilsteins will be wet-built (no insert but built into the strut so to achieve the largest valve size) so as long as they are 50mm then the length wont reallly matter to much. I will be running either neutral or only just positive offset wheels so hopefully clearence shouldn't be to much of an issue but its good to know R30/31 have the most. What about the bolt pattern on the lower arm, which works with which? I will rose-joint the lower arm for camber adj but I still want the steering and castor arms to bolt up.

pretending 1200 and 120y struts dont exist

all nissan datsun struts from sunny (310) to the z31 have the same 50.8mm strut tube, except the 240 260 and 280z
also the bolt spacing for the steering arm is the same for all except 240 260 and 280z

sunny and 1600(i think) have a smaller stub axle than the others, so wheelbearings arent actually the same

stub axle ange is the same for most, 280zx r30, r31 and maybe z31 have a greater angle giving greater wheel clearance and less camber

stanza 200b (small offset) and 240k (small offset) struts all that the same stub axle assembly, includes caliper mounting

200b and 240k large offset and the same struts

r31 r30 bluebird and 280zx??? all have the sameish stub axle assembly
ish being that bluebird has a different stub axle angle

sunny and 180b almost have the same stub axle assembly, sunny having smaller stub axle

wouldnt ever use sunny struts, stanza struts are only good if you plan on cutting them down and fitting shorter shocks

the rest are all fair game, r30 r31 and 280zx all have the shorter inserts im pretty sure so should ever have the need to fit shorter ones

really depends on what sorta brakes you plan on running as to which struts you choose

Thanks a bunch pigdog! So using 200b or 240k struts will give me more track width but average wheel clearence and using r30/31/z31 will give me better wheel clearence? I don't mind cutting down long tubes and I'll be welding adj spring platforms on so 200b is probably the go. I will be running willwood superlites and disks to suit (want to run 13x7s) so if any struts have the correct bolt spacing (I think superlites come in about 4 different options) that would be super handy.

Once the cars painted and I have some money to spend on my 280zx struts Im getting a wilwood brake package from the US. Its got the 4spot superlites, new rotors and rotor hubs to suit, costs about $600 all up though. They have a dogbone bracket as well to adapt the calipers.

You'll find you wont get them to just bolt on and even if you do get some to bolt up, without the bracket to move them away from the hub they will too close to the hub to get a large disc on there.
