why use fish oil? there are things like WD-40 which would prevent rust and not smell like low tide.

Well, just because there's no connection between the device and the panels, why wouldn't that work? lol. People buy all sort of nonsence that can't possibly work, like those super magnets that make your gas burn better, water heater not scale up and heals broken bones.

If the panel is rusting, maybe use that zinc spraypaint if it's on the inside of the panel then give it a good layer of undercoating.

ummm i said fish oil as a joke i ment fish oil would work better than a ill gimmick . personly i would use good primers and good under body tar keep it undercover and dry

some people that have a real rust bucket will spray fish oil , fill the doors with engin oil ect. ect

There are many benefits to buying a car cover, especially a good one that's waterproof. If you live by the coast, things are going to rust, no simple way to stop that, short of a zinc hot dip.

I looked at the rust stop gadget, they cite marine data and examples, but as i said, a sacrificial anode on a boat is different than getting rust on panels.

Rust is not corrosion it's oxidization. both destroy metals but not in the same ways. I don't think an electric current ( which has a very resistive path to ground through those big rubber insulators ) is going to affect oxidization. the solution for cars is to have the panels plated in something rust resistant, and don't forget the chassis, since the windshield trim tends to leak and allow rust to form where it won't be seen for a long time.


Are these gadgets why some vehicles trail ground straps, some for radio transmitters, some for CNG safety... since otherwise there isn't a good path to ground. ( I won't get into the mysteries of electrical ground now it's too late )

My dad has one on his toyota surf 4x4. It works.... apart from all rubber mounted brackets/bumpers. those bits rusted away lol.

I call shenanigans on these products.

If you want to believe that it works it probably will for you.

Some of those rust prevention things are specifically listed by the US govt as worthless. if you want to believe conspiracies then the oil companies and automakers paid them off. One of the products is listed on it's own website as not available in the US and canada. So canada's in on it too.

I'll believe in things with proof.

Only thing i believe in this thread, is that a waterproof car cover will only prevent your paint from fading in the sun. If its waterproof it cant breath and the trapped humidity will do more damage than just rain falling on an uncovered car. Add to that salt in the air from living on the coast and you might as well save your money on the car cover.

by waterproof i mean one of the goretex ones that breathes. simply throwing a tarp over it won't help much.

The short answer is everything not painted and treated continually rusts on the coast.

park your car in a shipping container each night and nitrogen purge it. you'll still get rust and corrosion from dirt and mud.
