don't get caught up in not liking the way someone delivers a post too much, an SR20 WILL NOT!!! fit into a standard 1000 ute engine bay.

it is too tall, even a CA18det would only maybe juuuust fit leaving the standard crossmember (new mounts obviously) but an SR no way. the thing that complicates it is that the transverse leaf runs under the the crossmember so even scolloping and lowering the standard one would not work.

i have measured. i have sat a ca18 on the crossmeber and seen how close it is. i have an sr20 to measure

so in a nutshell perthute was giving incorrect advice and was pulled up on it. gotta cop it sweet i reckon

Boo hoo chump. read it again and again and again. Read all the bitching on this forum that is directed at me. Make up your own mind. Have a cry about me. It wont change me. The fact is its a forum. You can write a sentence and without tone of voice it can have 2 meanings. Have a cry. Have your say. Make yourself look cool. Fact is you showed your true colours. perthute showed his true colours. Like I have always said. Write something on the internet. Dont cry when someone questions you about it. If you are all full of the advive that you try to appear to give - You will simply have no problem answering simple questions. If you cant answer the question, history shows that the next reaction is to cry in self defence.
Get a ####ing life. Cry that I ruin the forum with my words without tones, But i will always comment when i read people writing bullshit advice that i know from experience is bullshit.

Why give advice if you have no experience in what you are talking about? If people think about that, it will make this forum a better place. If you dont want me to post - dont write bullshit. Simple.

Now go back to congradulating yourself. You the man. or is it - You the man

D I understand and take into account what you have said. Some very appropriate, notable words.

As a newbie I spend most of my web time browsing and reading rather than posting and questioning (I prefer to try and find my answers).

As I have observed in my pursuit for knowledge it appears that phunk tends to use this very derogative and condescending manner of conversation. And as I read back on the thread I think it is fair to say that phunk has once again produced one of his specials.

Now I understand that newbie's should expect to cop some 'resistance' just like the new kid on the block scenario however, I do think that the typical rules of polite mutual treatment that would perhaps apply in the physical realm ought to be equally satisfied on webspace.

The older members here must understand that the newbie

A merlin jet engine will fit Christ anything will fit but will it be practical and achievable and drivable and registrable??? These are all questions that need to be answered not simply yeah it will fit, custom cross member and new tunnel!!!

If you have sr20's you can simply look at the motor and know there is no way that will fit in a 1000 and the bonnet actually close.

Back to the original post, a hottie a15 or a, dare I sa it, 4age or gze would be the go and about the biggest motor you could get in these cars. Besides everything that has been said you will not get an sr20 engineered in a b10.

I have fitted many different motors to many different datsuns over the years, I am not offering my advice as a way of shutting down someone else's enthusiasm, its facts of the matter

Clyons8 wouldnt you prefer to have some sarcasm thrown your way rather than spending money on failures? Life is too short to be pampering the wool of the boring herd. This is what a forum is for to seperate the crap from our hobbies.

Its better to listen to the advice of those who have been here for a while and have done it even if some fire is blown your way.

I dont how else to help so many sunburnt scalps with the same idea, Phunk has tried and others have tried to put an sr20 in a 1k engine bay just to see whats needed to be done.
I regretted the plan as soon as I found out they are heavier than a ca18 and larger, defeating what the 1k stands for light and nimble not nose heavy.

You always get noobs or bogons saying to put in a v8 or an almost equally heavy engine like the sr20det into a 1k or a mini or some other sheep sugestion. Just because its alloy it doesnt mean its light and compact - the thing is thickly sand cast and designed for big heavy sedans! modern 2ltr twin cam engines weight 50kg less by using pressure die casting. These modern light alloy 2ltr engines are more suitable for K konversions..

Again plain and simple its too long and too tall for a 1k engine bay. Unless you spend 2 to 3k on a custom front end/crossmember and run a dry sump setup as the sump will hit the ground once you lower a 1k to make it handle and marginally at that.

A much heavier car with an sr20 will outhandle and outrun a crippled sr20 b10 anyday.

Why do you think Steve Newing's c18de stanza beat lighter cars with sr20de and great drivers consistently? Its not just the donk that makes the project worthwhile but well balanced, well engineered setup.

Always think of what a car deserves, listen to people who have sound advice even sarcasm and work towards a car that wont just be a lead tiped arrow. There are too many already.

Plain and simply making pointless posts and giving advice about things you have no idea, dont help anyone.. wat the! i have a 1000 i have a few sr20s are you saying it wont fit ?

I simply pointed this out buy asking you questions? wat where they ? was that when you asked wat springs should be used ? the guy asked would it fit not a list of stuff he will need. grow up

My bad, but you still dont seem to have answers? wat answers like will it fit ?

I didnt get involved untill you tried to shoot someone down and say it will fit under the bonnet . i didnt shoot him down he said you should measure the height of a sr20 first before you just say you will need a bigger tunnel thats it!!!
i pointed out that i had measured it
and i feel it would fit under the bonnet or it would need a slight bulge

After all you have done your hands on research ?? yea i have measured it and i think it will fit wats your point

Custom crossmember is more than engine mounts champ. And a custom crossmember in a 1000 is a lot more involved than doing the same in a 1200.

i know it would be more involed than a 1200 one but that wasnt the question was it
