DD and Blodat are spot on,you have the wrong carrier fitted,it's a common mistake when mixing and matching

Great, looks like a longer carrier should sort it.
Which Datsun models had this longer bearing carrier fitted? Any Datsun fiends in NZ reading this that can help me out?

Go join up at datsun.co.nz. Someone there will have one. Make sure that you include your location in your profile. this should speed things up when waiting for the webmaster to activate your account

The question is not unique to NZ.
For A15 engine, you should use: 1. block-to-transmission spacer plate 2. A14/A15 flywheel 3. A14/A15 clutch release (throwout) bearing sleeve Pitroad says the mix/match is when using a mismatched flywheel ...That's all I know. I also used the matching flywheel to engine, never had a problem.

SORTED!
Gave up on trying to find a longer bearing carrier and had the shorter one extended. Ended up cutting it in half and loctiting in a stepped steel spacer. Modified Bearing Carrier
