I thought most engineers don't really want to see the car until it's ready. Arrange a meeting with them, take a heap of photo's of what you've changed and any areas you wish to question, whack 'em on a USB and their you go. The engineer should be able to tell you everything you wanna know just from this.

Can you get a special permit to drive it there? In NSW you can drive an unregistered car to a licensed mechanical repairer for the purpose of getting the car fit for rego. I'm sure an engineer counts in this regard.

I think originally everyone was confused with what you were after. Instead of being hostile let everyone say what they want, weed out the stuff you don't agree with, and take stock of the advice that will help you achieve what you want in the cheapest and safest manner.

Coming from Adelaide and knowing the basic rules of "engagment" you will be required to have a vehicle inspection and providing your car complies with standards or an engineers report , they will issue you ith a certificate of dispensation (proving your car complies with out a compliance plate). with out doing this you midas well make your car a track car or a trailer queen, or.... drive illegaly, your not the first person to do it!

Even if you do have that plate and you have an SR, CA, A15, 4AGZE or what ever, most of the cops have no idea and will send you to regency for having so much as a hair out of place.

My 0.02c worth.

No not quite the end. When a vehicle is issued with a genuine mod plate ,the corresponding paperwork is sent to the local state authorities by the issuer, and those details stay with the local registry on file for your vehicle.
If you speak to the right people at registry and explain yourself properly, they should be able to issue you a new plate or tell you who can and if there is a cost involved in a replacement, for which you will pursue the dick head panel beaters.
It's the same as if you need a number plate replacement!

Unfortunatly, an insurance company will look for ANY excuse to avoid paying out, especially $16K for 'an old datto' .

Ben I think you might have misunderstood me, I wasnt trying to make a funny joke, I was deadly serious, without the correct paperwork your car is not legally allowed on the road, which is a risk you might wish to take , but if something unexpected were to happen, (as it sometimes does in high performance cars), you could well find yourself up sh!t creek without a paddle.

Sidedraught - well said, cracks me up
I don't think there would be an insurance issue here - doubt if any exists .......

any any insurance you have will be void (for hitting the other car too, and for hitting people)
