exactly as the title suggests, whats a boxed carby and how do you go about building it?

im just looking into maybe considering taking on the prospect of attempting to try a blow through turbo setup...

i like suck throughs because they can use the standard fuel pump etc, however i would really like a blow through setup, because they allow for a greater potential i feel (with intercooler/higer fuel pressure). also i like blow through because i dont have to re-mount the carb.

any thoughts?

I have a boxed 32/36 I can take some pics of if you want? It's just a 32/36 with a "hks street turbo" hat put on top. I've seen setups with the entire carb boxed, but mine just has the hat sealed to the top of the carb. Can't tell you if it works because I've switched to suck through for simplicity... But the bloke I bought it off said that he was using it on a L20b and running 20 psi.

yeh, so if 10psi was what i was gonna run, thats all i would need to do? make a sealed hat for it?

i still dont quite understand why it needs to be in a 'box'

if your chasing a carby hat, i still have one of the ones left over from the bulk order looks the same as the one i was running and it suits a 32/36 for $150

It has a Hobbs switch stuck in the side and as mentioned the guy said that it was good for 20 psi... whether I believe him or not I don't know though.

Its in a box so that the pressure inside and outside the carby are the same, so the air under pressure in the carby isnt constantly trying to get out to the lower pressure area outside the carby.

so.. inside and outside the carby? if u only have a hat on the carby how does that cover the outside? or is it just to make sure the air doesn't leak back to atmosphere?

see i was under the impression that a carby doesnt work with air being blown through it (rather than being sucked through it), and a boxed carby somehow allowed for it to work again. but if a sealed hat on the top of the intake is all thats required then thats good news i spose...

i think i can make one of those for alot cheaper sorry frankthedolphintrainer...
