#1 Serial Numbers

I'm looking for a the section on this page where the serial numbers for the engines are kept. Can't seem to locate it.

This is what I have:

6X26B B82

Means nothing to me, hoping it will mean something soon.

Perhaps you can help us to help you by

1. Including some basic location information in your profile. There are some differences between countries, so this can help sometimes.

2. Tell us what engine that this number is on. Is it a Datsun engine, or a Nissan? Pushrod, or cammer, petrol/gasoline or diesel? How many cylinders?
What car is it in or did it come from? [if known]

I don't believe that we have a dedicated page of serial numbers, but the info you provide will be helpfull when other forumites try to help.

Not really, but we do have information about Datsun 1200 serial numbers: wiki.

You can always start a new page for the wiki. Or just add to the page that's already there.

Nissan

Not Sure

petrol/gasoline or diesel?
Petrol

How many cylinders?

I believe it to be from a Datsun Sunny B310, so I am led to believe. Only description given to me when I bought it was early 80's datsun sunny.

It will be an A12 or A14, and those numbers are casting numbers, not engine numbers or head numbers.. Keep looking for the engine number.

I believe you should look around on the side where the distributor is.

After giving it a bit of wipe, I struck gold:

J15 955987

I'm guessing there is a difference between the J and the A?
I'm also guessing that the 56A gearbox I have now on the 1200 won't fit the J engine?
This changes everything, even the ute crossmember I have!

J15 was never in a Sunny.

It was in the Datsun 1500 Ute that kinda looked like a Datsun 1600 but a bit more 1967.

Not sure about gearbox swaps, I know that the J and A series are similar in appearance. One of the fellas will know more.

So it appears to be mistaken Identity on the part of the seller or it really was in a sunny as part of a conversion that didn't workout....

I'll wait and see if any of the other chaps will know about the gearbox issue. Thanks for your help.

J-series engine is the most similar to A-series, the biggest visual difference is that the head is iron instead of aluminum. It is an older design, and none of the parts are the same.

The gearbox bolt pattern (bellhousing) is different.

Thanks for the info.

Do you mean that none of the parts in the J series are interchangable with the A series?

What gearbox/s should I be looking for or is this idea of putting a J15 in a 1200 a waste of time?
