So wat sort of power have you guys made from an a14 with either twin su's and twin webbers(delortos).

yeah i had dellorto's on my 1600 with L20 and there was a slight rise in fuel consumption over the Hitachis and it did go harder but i must say it needed to be fine tuned to make the difference.I guess that is what its all about isnt it..fine tuning,every little bit adds up.

i just chucked a pair of dellortos on my L20b to replace the SUs, motor had extractors but was otherwise stock....wouldnt say you dont notice a difference
cant say they used noticably more fuel either

just my experience though

Then I also need to drop a few questions in here if the original poster don't mind.

I am currently looking for a set of sidedraft webers to throw onto my stock A12GX motor. I am planning some work to the head but still use the standard GX cam as I am too lazy to pull out the block to change cam.

MAYBE later when funds permit I will do the engine but for now just the carbs.Am I wasting my time and money? I am happy with the Hitachi SU's and enjoy flogging it a little to 5000rpm and see the fuel gauge not making much of a change.
Maybe I must use the money that I am gonna spend on the carbs to rather do a proper job to the cylinder head.Think I will see more performance with head mods than just changing the carbs.
What do you guys think?
Main reason for wanting webers is that roaring sound.I one night went for a spin in a A14 with lots of works and sidedrafts.
Ooooh, that sounds was glorious.

L18 has hit the point "just throwing a set on" is what creates a lot of the negative impressions of these carbs. Webers are exremely tunable - choke sizes, aux venturies, emulsion tubes, pump bleeds etc etc etc. Typically they are tuned for WOT, with scant attention paid to the rest of the details. These details can make the overall package quite efficient (and you still get the glorious sound of a Datto breathing through Webers!)

I'm a big fan of Hitachi SU's for a street engine. they're smooth, economical and very tuneable.

they'll never be able to match Webers for outright performance though - they simply don't allow you to use really serious cam specs.

but if you just throw a set of webers/delloros/mikunis on an engine to replace SUs, don't expect much, if any, performance improvement. do expect worse fuel economy.

I guess the twin SU's really saves fuel when you dont step on the gas pedal because it has variable venturi's....compared to a large fixed venturi of a weber. I read abt this somewhere before...

Do what i did. Covert the 1 1/2 su's to 1 3/4. Im getting far better fuel economy, driveability and plenty more performance than the 1 1/2s ever did plus they flow near the amount of twin 40 webers. All the benefits of Su's with the performance of webers.

when you say the su/hitachi carbies perform well... how well you talkin and how much different you talkin if you set up a pair of su carbs on a a14 then swapped them with a set of webbers. Ball park so i know if its worth all the trouble. sorry just have no idea bout these old school little engines.(still learning)
