Ok guys I just had a mate round who is a mechanic and he reckons the capacitor that hangs off the side may be stuffed. What do you guys think? Also anyone know the type I should ask for when getting a new one? Knowing part shops they wont have any 1000 stuff in their books.

Have you tested for spark at the coil or end of coil lead?
Have you tried to get spark using a plug lead as the coil lead?

Edit; sorry just realised you had the first coil crap itself and the second worked but only for a while.
(helps to read the whole thread first).

Well i still dunno whats goin on ive got the new coil GT40 this time and still nothing, its getting power to it but no spark coming out!!! im getting pretty frustrated as this is my only transport and have to try and get to and from work.

Any ideas please

Oh I do have an alarm but I dont think that is the problem as it is getting power to it.

Also the Echlin book for coils has them down as a resistor coil so even the makers get it wrong :)

You don't have a gremlin, your car has an owner that doesn't pay attention or read his workshop manual.

Why on earth would you fit a GT40R [resistor type] to a car that does not have a resistor?
The 1200 does have one, & would need a resistor coil, but the 1000 doesn't & you have been pumping perhaps 14.5 volts through a coil that could be rated at 8 or 9 volts, [I don't really know the actual rating] in all likelyhood steadily destroying it.
If you use a Bosch GT coil, then the correct one would be a GT40, not a GT40R

Never mind, ... second time lucky
