#11 Re: Where to bolt fuel pumps under coupe

So I went ahead balls and all fitting fuel pumps today....would have been a lot easier if I'd someone else around to hold stuff on the coupe floor whilst I tried to tighten bolts from under the car. I got a little creative with some makeshift extra pairs on hands - anyway here are some of the results.

EFI and lift pump bolted in, need new surge tank as I'm now mounting upside down (intial concept was to mount in cabin).

What you think?

progress! nice..

looking good mate

fuel tank should be solid mounted so no problems with it moving

a carter black is a lot more than you would need to fill that surge tank, theyre noisy pricks too! but still quieter than the equivalent holley

keep up mate, you'll be boosting in no time!

Not too shabby at all. When do you think that you will have the beast running. You will have to change your name from Mildman to Wildman!

After this it's wiring, piping and whatever else comes up to stop it running.....getting closer though.

Thanks for the heads up Ange...it looked pretty solid under there, am very familiar with the underside of a coupe now, was lying under it most of the day.

be good to see another 1200 back to life in melbourne...

will it be track only for this beast? or going for road reg aswell?

Track car, with club reg I think. I wonder if I can con the NCCA to register our cruises as club events?

Good news is once the white coupe is finished I should be able to rescue the blue coupe from storage as well, that will be the real cruiser.

So with fuel pumps fitted...I've found some issues with piping it all up.

Here's a diagram of my setup.

Main problem are the different diameters of pipes. Green=8mm, Red=6mm, Blue=12.5mm

How do you go from 6mm to 8mm? Can you get expander fittings? Or are there fuel filters with different sized in & outs?

Also having trouble working out how to return fuel to the tank from the overflow on the surge tank...?

I've thought of one idea to return fuel to the fuel tank (from the overflow of the surge tank).

Get a T piece made up that T's into the fuel filling rubber hose, then cut the filling hose in half, insert the T piece (with a 5/16 bit of pipe which will accept the 8mm hose from the surge tank nicely).

Sound like a plan? (also the questions below I'm still interested in others opinions - on how to change hose diameters)

I could be wrong but a believe the carter lift pumps have a filter in them so id reposition the filter from between the tank and lift pump to in between the lift pump and the surge tank.

I mounted my lift pump under the floor behind the right rear tyre... and the surge mounted up behind the wheel arch.

i would be investing in a fuel filter before the lift pump, unless ur a money tree.. datsuns are old and will have lots of shat in the buttom of the tank, so if ur happy to buy a new lift pump when it dies dnt run one,
