Mitch im doin 4000rpm at 110kph im not sure if its a good idea to stay at this rev range on trips to Sydo lol it cant be good for her maybe i have to lower the diff ratio to get more out of each gear.... how is this done?

a "rally" box will be close ratio and it wont hav overdrive still just 1:1. and then its a ute so its probly got a 4.11 dif. and mate I sugest you do hav a closer look at the year because if it 75 and up it will hav a stronger diff.

And on the other note. I'v had my sedan past 100mph I think it was doing not quite 7g's on stokies with a 4speed. and I think when its siting on 60mph/100kph its doing about 3500rpm?

ZigZag, I dont like to drive my'n at higher RPM for to long either... But at 8000RPM she does sound lovely... not sure what rpm I'm doing at 160, I will look next time.

Um, just have a look in the wiki under drivetrain modification then diffs there is a few options but centres can be hard to find. The other option is a 5 speed but thats expensive and hard to find....

A-series are very comfortable are running at 4000 RPM for sustained periods of time. I drove my A12 powered sedan to datnats 07 [Philip Island Victoria] from sydney. It was travelling at 4250 RPM for hours and hours. Good oil, spark and cooling and the A-series will never let you down.

The standard GX valves spring won't float until 8100 RPM's and as the motor is non interference fit not to worry.

As for sustained RPM's back in 1985 we did a road trip with the coupe and for 2 1/2 hours it never went below 5000 RPM's and for 1/2 an hour of that it was at 6000 RPM's down a lonely stretch of desert highway. Basically if you drove around Bonneville Salt Flats in a giant 5 mile circle an A Series motor would likley run 20,000 miles nonstop at 6000 RPM's

Also as said a "rally" box is 1:1 top

And congrates on your new purchase!!!!!

Tom

ok then so i shouldnt worry about reving between 4000-5000rpm? thats sweet!!! i been avoiding the highway a bit... ive heard the celica 5 speed is the best option for box upgrades and a better diff ratio will help heaps
