I agree it should be the promoters who take the bulk of the responsibility, but the driver himself must have known that this was not a safe situation.

I mean on the dragstrip, they run behind concrete barriers with the spectators are even kept some distance behind them! They have a controlled, uniform, flat, smooth and prepared surface. They know that things can and DO go wrong in motorsport - particularly their form of motorsport where everything is stressed to its limits. Cars suffer mechanical problems or the drivers lose control and cars do end up in those walls...

Then he lobs up at a charity event on public road with all its irregularities, cambers etc. With people standing right on the edge of the road without any protection. He certainly has some responsibility here.

Not that this situation would ever be allowed to happenin Australia - we are on the other end of the spectrum and horrendously over-regulated, but if for example Victor Bray turned up at a promo event with his burnout car and was confronted with that situation, I'm certain he would refuse to run.

I don't think this guy should be facing the charges he's facing, but at the end of the day, he ran the car at high speeds on a public road, knowing there was a bunch of people standing right on the edge of the road, lost control and hit the crowd killing and injuring a bunch of people. If you or I did that in our road cars in everyday life we'd be charged with culpable driving (or its equivalent) at the very least.

I agree with all you've said Harry,BUT the local police and authorities organised this demo and gave the guy the all clear. If the guy was paid to run the car,and not out of the goodness of his heart,i might have a slightly differant view.
At the end of the day it simply should not have been allowed to run,but throwing multible murder charges at the guy and no fault at the organisers feet is beyond belief.
But as the saying goes..Only in America

I hope you signed the petition if only cause he's an Aussie, and if he was to be locked up for years or worse get the needle....the US becomes yet another place to be avoided due to thier crazy outrages laws!

Nova Radio station in Melbourne anounced this morning that Troy Critchley is not goin to face any Jail time and that he has accepted a 'deal' of some sort.

Not sure what sort of deal - but it's Really good news that it isn't the life in prison sentance he was facing!

Well done everyone who took the time to read and sign the petition and pass it on!
