I'd say either get an A15 or a L20B would be the best conversions to start with, then build up the brakes, diff and suspension - then do a CA, or even SR.

The worst thing about starting a CA conversion is you wont be able to drive the car for a long time....as everything takes longer than you expect!

At least with the A15 it could be done in a weekend, a L series in a month or two.

I bit off a little more than I could easily chew jumping into a CA conversion, 2 years later nearly finished.......

i rekon if your gona go through the trouble of fitting in a bigger engine just go for the sr20 coz its gona be the same amount of work just a little extra cash but at least you will have a better engine that is stronger and will push more power with bolt ons.

Maybe I'm just being a pussy - but I thought an A15 conversion (which I've done) was about a million times easier and cheaper than the CA conversion (which I've nearly finished).

For the A and L you dont need to change the fuel system, the diff, for the A series you dont even need a custom tailshaft (I'm not sure for the L). You could even leave brakes and suspension alone initially....you don't even need to engineer an A15.

Depends if this guy has a garage full of tools and some fabrication experience I guess it could be a different story...but I would say there is a lot more work in an EFI big motor than a similar sized carby motor.

....unless of course you just meant if you are going to go to the trouble of the CA you might as well go the SR.....that I would agree with. There is plenty more stuff around for the SR than the CA and you can make plenty more power too.

utes are different to coupes and it is still very hard to do an sr20det into a ute. there is a flaw in the sytem that says that if the utility vehicles need more power if they are towing/moving big loads so i think the vehicle has to be registered through a buisness and then you MAY be able to get it engineered
that is what i have been told

so its legal for a ca turbo conversion? in doin this i neeed to change suspension and brakes and most other things aye?

Brake & suspension 'restoration' is recomended for any stock 1200 when you get it.
Upgrade from drums to stock discs is highly recomended as a minimum for a stock 1200 when you get it.

Upgrade to better discs [equal to B310 Sunny] is a requirement with even an A14 or A15 in NSW as the brake system should match [or better] the donor chassis that the engine came from.

To imagine for even a nanosecond that a substantial brake system & suspension upgrade might not be required with a CA18DET install is just dreamin', pure dreamin,

Man, you guys have it rough! Over here we can get certification for ANY engine, in ANY car. You just have to convince the engineer it's safe.
