Hey i've done the conversion using kev Rowley's caliper spacer and i also found the brakes to be not very effective - which made me think the master cylinder and caliper cylinder were in correctly matched or my brake pads were crap.
My brake pedal is high which indicates there's plenty of fluid to fill the caliper cylinder. Most people have the opposite problem of having huge four spot calipers and pedal goes right to the floor.
Perhaps the caliper cylinder is just too small? I doubt it though. Will check manual.

wat size master are you using? if its too big and you dont have a booster it will feel like you have no brakes....ive got that problem right now with r32/33 brakes all round and a booster that doesnt work, good fun trying to pull up fast

I'm using the LB lancer master and booster with the S13 front brakes. Not sure what the bore is but probably 11/16.
Mind you my brake pedal doesn't move down very much if i pump it a couple of times and then start the engine. Perhaps the booster is on the way out and explains the lack of responsiveness?
Similar symptoms to your car pigdog.

I did the conversion several months ago with great success. I went with the smaller of the two brakes options offered on a S13, [CA18DET 250mm rotors]. The 13 inch watanabes fit very nicely. the Master cylinder I used was sourced from a 240Z. Std Drum brakes are still on the rear. It does require a little more leg power as its not vacuum assisted. Soon I will be fitting ebc green stuff pads to chase a llittle more bite.

just picked up a pair of s13 calipers for $40 so it looks like im heading down this path, i have both pairs of drum and rotor struts but am unsure after reading this which one is better to use?

ps are everyone using the bracket like the one on ebay?

thanks

use kev rowleys its much nicer looking. i would recommend not using the 1200 strut as there is too much stuffing around with the spacer, much easier to use the 120y strut and hub

What do you mean exactly Frank? My factory 1200 disc brake struts didn't need any spacer to make them work. I just bolted on the 8mm thick adapter, and threw the whole thing back together.

+1, same here
Sure it wasnt the drum strut you were trying to use?
EDIT: you used the drum hub on disk strut didnt you?
