Yes, Dodgeman is spot on. To add the GL code, it is suffix -G. Not shown on the following, since we didn't get any GL in north america:

Nissan Chassis Codes

I don't think these codes are found anywhere on the car.

Most B210s are Deluxe, only a few were Standard which had no carpet (only mats) and some other poverty features.

haha thats cool as. Mats versus carpet aye. I would love to go back the the 60's and 70's for a while to experience all the olds cars as new. I heard that 120ys were good sellers. They were about $2000 wern't they? My dad bought a 1975 Kombi Van brand new, and that cost $5500. I know that in the very late 60's my day was earning $40 a week as a qualified plumber.

I also found out that worldwide about 2.55 million 120ys were sold.

Do you still have any photos of the old dealership back in the day?

Interesting that in the North American book it says they the letter 'L' combined with the letter 'U' further along in the string [L-U] is for US & Canadian models.
In reality, the letter 'L' is for 'left drive' while the letter 'U' is for vehicles destined for North America in the same way that 'X' is for Aussie spec models.

Left drive models, all of which carried the 'L' code were sold into many other countries as well, so what the book says is not 'untrue' but not entirely accurate either.

My book says "The unit & car numbers are stamped & registered at the factory.
The engine & car identification numbers are used on legal documents. These numbers are used for factory communications such as Technical Report, Warranty Claims, Service Journal & other information."

The only image that I have that relates to my stepfathers Datsun dealership is on a colour slide [transparency] & it shows a white 1200 coupe [like I drive now] in the showroom.
He was a half owner of D&G motors in Blacktown [Daniels & Grimshaw] & he was the 'D' part.

actually if anyone can remember the advertising music/jingle for the 120Y
it sang about having a lot of standard features, so they must have been mainly deluxes.
"datsun 120 whyyyy?
witha whole lot more,
than a ?? what u pay for..
datsun 120 whyyyy?"

something like that, give me a break its 30 years ago.

I know that they pushed the "Petrol Wowser" theme & I still have new showroom posters with "120Y, the petrol wowser" text on them.
I don't remember the jingle though.

I do remember the line, " New Datsun ?????, it's got the lot" but I think [but don't know] it was for either the 1000 or 1200 model.
