Rad will be a issue, A-series and L-series coolant inlet and ooutlets are on opposite sides, anything from l-series car won't fit under the bonnet (too high but maybe bluey rad). Im using a SAAB 900 radiator. Pigdog is using a camry rad i think.
Yeah you won't get smaller than 14's over those brakes without negative offset. Unfamilia good to see your getting closer, free bits are cool!!

The CA18DE is twin cam with the suffix letter 'D' standing for Double[OHC] or perhaps Dual[OHC] The 'E' suffix is for 'Electronic' & I have presumed that this means Ignition & Fuel injection. The straight CA18 is a single OHC engine with a carb, a CA18E would have something Electronic & of course the 'T' suffix is for Turbo. [EDITED to remove incorrect information. See my next post] To address the original question asked, I do not know the weight difference, but doubt if it's very much. The L18 has been a proven performer time & time again for decades. Properly built, they can appear bulletproof & can deliver more performance that a street driven 1200 should ever really need. The L series carries a legendary status, is relatively easy to find, cheap to buy & easy enough to overhaul. It's the better, even if lower powered, choice for a 1200 in my view for many good reasons.

Both short stanza boxes, 63a 5spd i used ca g/box crossmember and removed a-series box mounts in tunnel, 4spd I used 180b g/box crossmember (holes redrilled) and that bolted to mounts in tunnel, but I widened tunnel with oxy + scissor jack a tad.

If your using that L18, you'll need a stanza or bluey sump and redrill dipstick hole to front of motor.

Thanks mate. Herd 180B speedo cable will fit 1200 ? So would assume 1200 fits 180b 4 speed. By the way Sean. Thanks heaps for the great info matey. hope i can pick your brains some more in the coming weeks. Are any of yours street registered with L series ?

Too easy, Im willing to talk anyone into putting lseries in their car.
Yeah the L16 brown car is registerd properly. 180b speedo cable should work, im using a stanza one which sort-of fits, its just not the best fit on the rear of the speedo. 180b box could be longish so will need shortened t/shaft. cheers!

The CA18ET was the engine that frightened the bejeesus out of the V8's at Bathurst in the 910 Bluebirds during the early 80's They went VERY fast, but unfortunately the overboosting that was done for qualifying inconveniently blew head gaskets. They were proven to be a bloody strong performer, yet they are largely unloved. they were Z18 engines. very closely related to L series bottom ends.

Yeah thats right They were the Z18 and the reason they frightened the jesus out of the V8's to be honest Is because it was a very cold and miserable day and the bluebird crew said lets crank the turbo right up, hence why it did so well. Never to be repeated.Though they are very quick in our beloved little datto's especially the 1200. There is a 200b on ebay with L series engine and Z18 head and turbo setup at present.
