The R100 steering wheels are also worth big bikkies and to think 20 years ago I broke one in halve with my face in a head on. If only I had a crystal ball I would have avoided the steering wheel and gone for the dashpad

I put the third and final coat onto the suspension parts last night. Using the same old IL688. I was going to clearcoat but I've hit the limit on my budget and I have to spare the clear for the rest of the car. Tonight I intend to install all of the front components including steering column. I also plan to put a clearcoat down on the engine bay.

688 is pretty glossy anyway and it leaves a very nice finish.

So one coat of intergard 269 to hold the blasted state.

One coat of High Solids Interprime 198.

Two thin coats of 688.

And one last generous coat of 688 to pull the shine and lay the thickness.

Before

After (I'll pull them of the mat tonight so I can get some decent shots of the work quality. There was some minor dripping/pooling on the front brake back plates but that was all)

I also put a light coat down on the diff. Final coats tonight, the end that isn't painted is stuffed so it'll be coming off soon.

This was also sand blasted by the way. No photographic proof so you'll have to believe me.

Here are some of the N.O.S parts that I collected during my university years. They will all be used on this restoration.

Pepper:

Yes I saw those inserts. Far too much for my wallet. I like the wheel without them anyway.

Mike:

Yeah the dash is acually one of the few things I am not doing on my own, it's a secret You'll see it when it's finished.

Bert:

You really want another datsun?

D:

You broke it with your face? Sheesh man that sounds like a nasty car accident.

Malana (Morning),

I got some clear down on the engine bay. I must admit the paint quality is not as good as it should be. There is no question on paint thickness but there are several awkward spots where the paint has dripped. I hadn't adjusted the gun properly so there was some excess. I'm a beginner.

Anyhow, the clear went on, I think another coat would be a smart idea.

Some idiot has bumped the front apron while I was visiting my missus & son in Aus so theres more work to do up the front. I asked around and of course no one saw anything.

Anyway, lets get to it, Photos!

Here is the clear, don't remember buying this much but it's there.

Decided to do some of the suspension parts as well. These I was very happy with.

Anyway, supposed to be at work. If the pictures show up can someone let me know. The internet here is hell slow and all I see is little boxes with a cross through 'em.

Okay I went all at it over the weekend. Clocked 14 hours straight on saturday, got hammered that night and came back in at 5:30am on Sunday, good lord did I feel terrible. Here is a shot from that night, I'm the skinny one (or more sober one). I reckon Eltons lack of focus says it all.

Anyway I left at just before midnight last night so it was a monster weekend. I needed it though, going to the mines in a couple of days so there won't be much going on. I grabbed a mate to help me out on Saturday day and Sunday day, his name is Vince. One of the finest people I know.

Pictures!

Here she is from the front end, after I took it off the stand it was on earlier. I managed to get a mate to help me move the forklift arounnd etc.

Here she is from the rear, I need a few more sand/paint sessions.

A better view of the side, this has a big dent near the end, I'm slowly getting the shape back. It;s hard work though.

Here is the boot with a coat of colour. You can see the old rust holes (I still haven't filled!).

Here is a photo I took looking through the cabin, She's very, very clean. I'm very happy with the result.

Did some agonising work on the god-forsaken bonnet. Did some work on the guards too. All of the 100% rust free.

You can see the cross-bracing on the bonnet. It's because I blasted it, so the air pressure has pressed the sheet metal back onto the cross bracing, leaving the imprint. I have a spare bonnet but I don't want to known as 'the guy who f'ed three bonnets' The unfortunate thing is it'll be much heavier due to all the filler. I will have to strengthen/multiply the bonnet stops.

I cleaned sanded, primed the fuel tank then put a black coat on it and finished it with a coat of clear.

This is one of the best things I did in my project, I filed all of my screws, nuts, bolts, clips and then I stacked them in timber boxes, each labelled as their particular area i.e front left light assemblies. I'm so impressed because I am not normally good with small parts.

Here is the front apron, you can see it still needs some sanding and filling. I fitted the NOS shock absorbers to the front. You can see the nissan box on the gound with the shocks on top.

Putting the front suspension in. I had to use the camera on it's timer, sitting on a bar stool. It rarely works unless you take the pictures manually.

Front left put together.

Put the rim on just for safety reasons (jack stand weren't to stable).

Here is the right hand side assembled.

I also painted the engine rocker cover (as well as clear).

I managed to sand and varnish my B10 Sports Wheel.

The grill and headlights surrounds were also polished and I began sanding the doors back.

All bolts nuts washers were rinsed and wiped, then replaced with a generous coat of fish oil.

Cheers,

Chris Lyons

Oh I dunno I still reckon if the pressure hadn't been turned all the way up it would have turned out much better.

I can bring it back it's just going to take alot of work.

Paint stripper is nasty stuff!
