What exactly are you polishing? If it's piping or something similar you need an attachment that goes on to a bench grinder aand looks like a lambs wool buff pad does an excellent job, wheels or something of that nature you get an attachment for a cordless drill or power drill so that can get in all the nooks and crannys.

Mothers make a good polish that works well on stainless, alloy and aluminum, i recommend it!

I recomend mothers too, cause after they polish you wheels, they can cook dinner, clean the house and then iron your shirt for work the next day if need be.

Im about to embark on the boof head method as i want a shiny finish.. going 400 600 800 then 1200... buff with a cutting compound then buff with a polish. The ct28 metal polish truckies use isnt bad either... they swear by it and all the chrome and aliminum i have seen on trucks still looks good after all those miles.

If im happy with the 800 finsh i wont boter excepet for a light 1200 sand.

cheers guys its me alloy tray but stuff it i went brought a electric pollisher lol no stuffin around for me lol its getting their ay looks good
