found a dizzy last night... going to install it tonight

had completely forgotten buying a datrats bluey elec dizzy off another member about a year ago

there is two wires from the dizzy, where do i need to wire them to?

do i still need to plug the original datsun 1200 dizzy wire to anything?

might have to go to repco for a coil though, i guess i just ask for one for a series three bluey?

should be pretty straight forward but if someone can quickly tell me it will save some time

cheers,
michael

Wire's go to the pint on the dizzy (blue=-) (red=+) remove ballest resistor (white block) and get a good electronic ignition coil

i.e. Bosch GT40r or just a GT40 (no "R") one is for electronic and one is for point's not sure witch but they can tell you.

Good luck..

Connor.

The Series 3 Bluebird probably did have the High Energy ignition but if you have a converted L series Bosch Electronic distributor, then it came from a Series 2 car & these were the last to use the L series engines in Australia & the only L series engines to use the High Energy electronic ignition here.
Surely you can find a coil in a wreckers.

The series 3 car used the CA20 engine.

The GT40 coil is designed to run on a standard 12 volt system, but not the High Energy systems. A coil that is designed for the higher primary voltages that these systems apparently use will be required.

Sourcing one fron a donor Series 2 Bluebird is an inexpensive way to get one that matches correctly.

True thats a very good point dodgeman
A coil to suit s2 bluebird would be wise,
i'm pretty sure the black coils used on the
holden hei is still called a gt40? Obviously a
higher output but.

(Sorry to resurrect the the thread but I thought it would be better to keep it in one place instead of starting another thread) :)

..that said, I recently received one of Mal's (Weekend1000) fantastic B310 aftermarket elec dizzys and need to check what coil is required?
Is it the GT40 or the GT40R?

Cheers,
Sam

I'm running a GT40R with the same dizzy.

EDIT: Sorry, its a GT40T coil & I need the resistor to run the motor.

I removed my resistor and just bridged the wires, other wise it runs until you release the key on start.
