I'm sure lots of the guys would like to go to the Z nationals at Easter, but why would anyone spend about a third of thier motor sport budget for the year for next to no return?

Then again,if anyone wanted to throw money at me i would gladly attend.

as Rob said, you'd get alot more of us if the costs were reasonable.

Early bird participant registration (pre Nov 30) $185, after 30 Nov $210
Plus Sprints fee $130/$140 per person

I was very keen to enter until I found out you HAVE to pay the registration if you want to do the sprint. I'm not paying $315-350 for a sprint day, surrounded by a bunch of novice drivers in slow road cars.

The premier sprint in the country, SuperLap cost $250 to enter, and it was only that much beause they were offering cash prizemoney.

The 2 day Australian SuperSprint Championship is $195 entry.

$315 is just outrageous! The sprint could definitely sustain its own costs just at the $130-$140 asking price, and then you'd get quite a few of these actually fast car/driver combos entering.

As it stands, I doubt you'll get more than one or two of us. I know I won't be entering, I can do 3 or 4 other events for that kind of entry money. Shame too, coz there's a few real surprise packets out there. Like O'Mara's orange 1200 coupe with twin webered A series power pictured above, which would absolutely smash 99% of the twin cam turboed Datsuns that turn up to the Nationals. It would almost be worth a few of us chipping in to pay his entry fee, just to show the tarted up twin cam turbo road cars what performance is all about!

I'm with Rob and Harry on this one. I was keen as mustard for the Nationals until I saw the cost breakdown. I have no interest in entering my car in anything other than the sprint meet. On that basis the cost is excessive.

Once you factor in petrol, trailer hire etc it is very close to being my entire annual motorsport budget.

I will still be attending the event but I will not competing.

Matty

tell me the datto is passing the IMP yes?

Also Harry how heavy are the wheels on the 1200? I found superlites the complete opposite and are much heavier than hotwires and some other cheap rims.

yep, only thing Superlite about those wheels is the name. They now also make a competition only use lightweight version of the superlite, which is apparently about 5kg lighter in the 15*8" size! Almost makes buying a new set of wheels justifiable...

But a new set of wheels would be 3/4 of the way to buying a set of full slicks which should put me in contention for outright honours at Carnell and attempt a class record at Mt Cotton. Lighter wheels would be nice, but lucky to make any measureable performance gains. They look alot tougher in the new 8 spoke style though.. and it would be nice to have the slicks mounted on a different set of wheels so I could swap easily for different events... yep, I think I've nearly got myself convinved to buy a set!

someone buy my wagon!!!

Great photos! Those flares on Camerons dato are the same ones I have, I bought mine second hand so knowledge on where to get another set would be nice.

Hotwires are some of the lightest budget wheels ever made,
they are daggy and can be had next to nothing but with your setup and driving ability it should make a slight difference without 15-20kg all round unsprung weight.
Id say 150aud for a set is too expensive, but depends where you are and how many are floating around as you couldnt give them away a few years ago.
5kg a wheel might not sound like much as unsprung weight but when I look at my old rx7 s5 I was surprised for such a heavy thing it had alloy hubs and nifty calipers which everyone uses for third party upgrades.
