how much is rego in nsw? up here in qld you can get club rego for a CA powered 1200. $150 a year, full rego is around $600 for a 4cyl

want an even greater learning experience? turbo, ay12 head, efi and full spark control via edis or something similar on a15
but with doing all that you could probably buy 2 1200s and put ca18dets in both for the same price haha

Think ill probably go the CA, after all i do want some decent power at the wheels. Comes down to what you put in is what you get out i guess.

Good option. If you just wanted to have a neat little cruiser with a bit more poke then an A15 would have been sufficient. But if you're half serious about going quick then CA18 all the way!

with a ca you are reengineering the whole car
its a big job,cutting out floors, swapping diffs, upgrading brakes. rewiring for efi...... a15 is a piece of cake.just a bigger one of what youve got now if you are mechanically minded and good with electrics you can do most of a ca yourself do your research before you start and make sure you are capable of finishing it a finished a15 is better than a ca in bits dazza

all valid points...i reckon you need to work out how much power you really want/need first and then your real budget...what ever that is double it and add some for mistakes..lol
then again you can buy someone half finished project and save a lot of time and money...i knew of two half finished 1200/ca's here in brissy for good money. i have two 1200's and money permitting they are both getting ca's...one big power jobbie and one daily driver...probably with biggish power too plus this site has tonnes of good stuff to buy and good info to help with either install so read carefully first and ask more q's.

Why not fit a mild A15 while you collect the required parts for a CA conversion? If you find that the A series is enough you will be able to sell off the CA bits without losing any money down the track. At least this way you still have the car on the road while you get everything together. Believe me, there are a heap of parts required for a successful CA conversion.

i had an a15 ute a year ago... it got written off!!!!! (not my fault) and i have just brought a ca18 det ute and the power is incredible compared to the a15. when it hits boost it brings a smile to my face every time.... however most of the work was done for me so i have no idea on the install.i just finished it off ..... end product is definately worth it tho.!!!! if u go ca u won't be disappointed
