Chris what are those two fixtures on the frame for? Does something attach to them?

i've had a few BMX's over the years... a minigoose and torker were my fav's ... i then upgraded to road bikes, then mountain, then back to BMX and then a 24" cruiser ...
at present i've got a 24" mosh method cruiser, and a specialized P.3 mountain bike, set up fully rigid. And i just sold a mongoose Fuzzy Pro jumps bike to a friends son.
i used to be flat out into jumps until i had a spill and nearly broke a collar bone ... then i realised how old i was and the fear started of really hurting myself ! so now i just cruise with the odd bit of single trail or downhill

Im still a kid at 15 so no oldschool bikes from my early years, however I have a 06' mongoose expert which im trying to sell as I have just got into downhill mountain bike here in wagga there is some pretty mean trails so ive been hitting them up heaps lately and for that I have a 07' mongoose fireball hardtail mountain bike which I love! But when abit younger and in the skate park scene I was a shorter kid with not much weight about me, I found it hard to monouver heavier 20" bikes so I rode junker 16 inch bikes with 20" handlebars searved me well for years.

Hey Dodge and Sidey those old school bikes look sweet.

They're schrader valves & are part of the [wait for it] "H.I.S." That's the "Helium Injection System."

The top & down tubes were made from 0.037" wall ChroMolly tube against the standard 0.049" wall thickness tube.
To add some stiffness back into the frame it was pumped with about 120psi of Helium.
This model was an upgrade on the previous "Team" model & was called the "Team Helium".
The tubing for these two frame tubes was bought from Hawker DeHaviland at Bankstown airport, so yes, it's aircraft tube.

As a marketing exercise it worked a treat as everybody wanted one & those that couldn't afford a real one often bought a lower cost model instead,
so for it's true intended purpose, it worked great.

As for being lighter & stronger, ... well, no it wasn't. The weight saved by the lighter tube was about the same as the weight added by the valves &
of course replacing the air in those two tubes with compressed helium would have saved about the same weight as you would loose with a quick spit.
As for strength, the pressurised frame would be about the same as astandard one, but hey, those two valves marked you as ultra cool, &
wasn't that half the objective?

Surprisingly, they are still regarded as something special even today. They're also as rare as hell.

EDIT
Here's a 1982 catalogue pic.
