It isn't 'spose' to run coolant either.

Just make a overflow bottle from one of your empty coolant bottles, put hole in lid for hose, put hole in lid for air and don't let hose bottom out in bottle and it will work.

Car ARE 'spose' to run coolant it raises the boiling point of water and also helps fight corrosion in the engines water jackets as water by its self corrodes these over time.

Im stumped why your car spits out cooland but likes water its a mystery let us know what you find out as i fell everything said on this thread is correct advise to help you out

I never said coolant shouldn't be used, I just stated that from factory these cars didn't have coolant as we know it with both anti-freeze and rust inhibiting properties.

I think you'll find back in the 70's you just used distilled water and rust inhibitor.

So why not just put a overflow bottle on, mark where it's filled to, drive to work, let it cool, see if level is lower, if so your loosing it elsewhere.

And a coolant can be a liquid as long as it aids in the transfer of heat, ie using oil with a cutting tool.

I agree with you WhiteSedan, a overflow bottle is the way to go.....

And when you say "isnt spose to use coolant" I think that a pretty straight foward comment dont you?

And who is saying a coolant cant be a liquid???
In my book in order to cool you need liquid...... hence oil and water

Your car is allergic to crap coolant! Be sure to use the correct cap if you decide to run a recovery system. There are 2 types. Recovery and Non Recovery.

I just think not wanting to put an overflow bottle on because it's not meant to have one is funny, and the only reason not to would have to be originality and I was just stating that these cars 'In my eyes' only ran distilled water and rust inhibitor so that wouldn't be original also.
