i jacked up the ute at the rear and spun the right wheel by hand, the left wheel spun in the opposite direction? when accelerating however, both wheels spun at the same time in the same direction. does this mean the diff has been locked? or LSD? it feels they both spin when giving it some.

also the engine cuts out sometimes whilst driving >no response, yet revs up and down when i change gears as its just rolling> the mechanic found no fault, but after burning out today, this seems to happen.. could the differential be slipping somehow, causing this problem? is it because its modified or cheaply welded even??

any thoughts... cheers

You live in Kellyville hey?

My welded locker was almost impossible to turn by hand, but both wheels turned in the same direction. Seems strange to me that the other wheel spins in the opposite direction.

because of the design of an open diff the wheels will pretty much always spin in the opposite direction of each other. your diff obviously is not locked but could be lsd.

if the wheels are spinning in opposite directions its not locked
as someone else said i have heard of lsd doing this but also when single spinners are on theie way out they tend to throw two wheels

as the others said the diff is not locked. i had a problem with mine a while ago when the engine would cut out when i wasn't giving it any throttle. as long as i kept the revs up a bit it was ok. turned out to b the old style cork gasket in the carby had started to deteriorate and some had went into the carby and caused it to stall

id be saying its a pegger on its way out
does it have excessive backlash? as in does it clunk when changing gears?
i had a open BW68, 200b BW, that would spin both wheels all the time except when trying to do a donut. turned out that the pin that goes through the centre to hold the spider gears in had broke and caused the centre to lock up when load was applied to it
it also made a hell of a clunk when changing through gears, or when getting off and on the throttle
