Well my uncle is a huge datsun fan, hes owned 5 datsuns in his life time and loves them, so when he found out i wanted a first car he reckomended i check out a 1200, i did and absolutely loved the look of the car.

The 1200 sedan that was sent looks perfect sept for one thing, i don't understand any of the technical stuff about the parts and whatnot :|

Take the technical stuff to your uncle and google any questions you have. Google is great it will give you some info. You can look up to the left in the Wiki and tech section they will explain some things. Oh and lets not forget that there are members here with a wealth of knowledge and experience to help you answer any Questions. The silliest question to ask is the one you dont ask
Edit: The parts pictured in that add are for sale separately to my knowledge.

Hey, hey, hey come on now fellas. Don't forget the peppy little Datsun 1000 (or has someone mentioned it already?).

Mate click the two links in my signature bar. The white one is a perfect example of someone going out of control on a project build
I have gone over budget and I have reached a situation where I won't even be able to drive the damn thing when I finish it (running out of time).

The second link, the Red 2dr B10 is a true bargain that I picked up a couple of weeks ago.

Regardless of what these guys say. Do no invest in a project just yet. Buy a stock 1200 or 1000 that is already operational, when you get the hang of things you can start doing all the fun stuff like brake upgrades, minor body work etc etc.

Do not put yourself in the deep end....unless you are prepared to pay the money to get someone else to do it.

There is nothing more frustrating than being in a situation and you don't know what to do.

Hey mate Sidedraughts KB10 Datsun 1000 Coupe is for sale. Andy is a mechanic by trade, so there's no question on mech standard.

The KB10 is a gem though perhaps a little too much for a first car...

Andy's Super KB10

I do 500km a week and tow trailers and drive to melbourne and those kind of things which simply would not be possible in my datsun.

my first car was a sunny and i did everything in it, i used to carry trailer everywhere carrying limestone blocks a to the hills and it went fine. also went around australia in it and i survived. i used to tow my friends falcons that would always break down till the gearbox shattered

hahaha well mine is a stock kb10 and it struggles to tow itself along, let alone a tandem trailer with 5 motorbikes!

Well, datnovice, you came to a very bias site to ask if the datsun is a good choice as a first car!!!

I drove a 1964 mini-cooper as my first car. It was a love-hate relationship. I still have it-parked at home. It gave me tooo many beans to carry on driving it, but I love it too much to sell it.

All old cars will give you problems! The number of problems it gives you depends on the condition it's in. I live in Zimbabwe & new parts are difficult or expensive to come by. In Aussie though, I dont think you'll have that problem.

Good thing about an old car though...if it does give you problems, it's simple enough to fix. When I started driving my mini, I knew NOTHING about mechanics (I'm an IT consultant). But when I watched a mechanic working on my mini, I thought to myself - all I need is a manual & I can do all of this myself!

Now I own a Datsun 1200 (from about six months ago) & when I got it, it was barely running... but its my daily driver and needs alota work, but I know that I can do it my self at the end of the day.

The Datsun will most probably get you hooked on mechanics, upgrading, modifying and pimping your ride... It's the best place to start, and too difficult either! If you buy a more modern car, there's more that can go wrong with it...

A Datsun is simple, reliable and most of all, FUN!
