i have a ca18det 1200 ute and is running the standard computer at the moment. i want to upgrade the engine management and am wondering which aftermarket ecu would be best. i plan to upgrade later to a t 28 and 55occ injectors. it already has 3 inch exhaust. i don't want to pay for an expensive unit that i won't use the features of, so would a piggy back one do the job??? cheers

i would either get a piggy back tune done by a reputable ca tuner like dr drift or someone similar. or i would get a mcrotech as they are in my opinion best bang for buck. but in both cases get the turbo, exhaust and injectors fitted before you do the tune or you will only have to go back again for another one

Agreed. You can buy the most expensive ECU on the market but if the tune is rubbish then your car won't be in good shape.

since its the engine transplanted to another car u dont need to worry about all the creature comfort features the ecu controls, so the advantage of a piggyback retaining all that isnt an issue.
if its being built for regular track work go full ecu, a lot of little glitches in the tune with "signal bender" piggybacks show up there because the dyno works with progressive acceleration and load, but on the track u have a lot of deceleration backing off as well. thats where a full ecu shows an advantage also that gets past the rev-limiter and limp modes that could be a problem depending on what u r doing with it. For street use a piggyback is fine, Ive got a greddy-e-manage and its been awesome.

thanks guys. i will mostly be using it for street but will take it down the strip occasionally. seems like a piggyback might do the trick for my application. can any one point a good ca tuner around brissie..????? i know dyson down the coast got a pretty good tune on my mates ca but its a bit far and and tey specialise in rotaries. and as far as the other guys APC, perfourmance motorsport, extreme motorsport etc i don't know anyone who has used them. what your guys opinion ???

There is also Matt Spry at PITS. He works on YEH8S if you want to consider someone else.
