The T50 box with a dellow housing is the go. All new it works about the same as the datsun box, but 5 cogs and tougher. Just remember to get the 23 spline output shaft version. These are the 3T versions not the 2T version, and try to find one with the mid length shifter housing. (there were three lengths available)

does anyone really need a 6 speed behind an A series
Certainly, an A12 needs a six speed far more than any newer car with more power needs one. In other words, no engine needs a six speed. Yet it would be useful.

It also depends on the ratios.

We have a new Toyota Prado at work with a 6 speed box. In top gear (6th) it is doing the same revs and speed as an earlier 5 speed version of the same car. 6th is not an over-overdrive at all. They have just spread the same ratios over more gears.

The 6 speed S15 box would be great if you had a fair bit of power. With the amount of tooth contact in the box it would drain a bit of power. A bit like putting a 9inch in a stock 180B.

The dellow kit, providing you pick it up is closer to $1400 and then you need to mod your tailshaft. Theres another $150 at least. They do come up for sale here from time to time. I think sidedraught had one for sale recently.

That was a mate of mine. He said the ratio's were were close to the shellsport ratios. He did a tech write up on it, but the hosting for all the pics has expired.

I'd go the celica 3t conversion, because if you do blow a gearbox you know that a replacement trans or parts to rebuild are much more readily available compared to a datsun 5 speed.
You just have to get over the expense of the initial conversion
I'm looking into doing this conversion in my ute in 6 months or so when I get the coin together...

because of the cost behind putting a new engine in then getting it engineered and not to mention how both those motors use more fuel than my a14
