Z22 doesn't fit with the current funny shaped 4WD sump, needs a front one. Sump stops it about 1 - 2 inches above the engine mounts.

Oh well. At least now its got vented front discs and much bigger pads, like 3 times the size of the stock 120Y ones. I like good brakes!!

#OOPS#ty phone pic of engine in bay, should fit with the right sump.

Oh and my 13's dont fit over the brakes once the nuts are fully tight. Bugger now I have to organise my rim/tyre collection into something useful.

Like this, although I dont think rally tyres are a good idea, Khana anyone?

Mostly installed the Hydraulic clutch this weekend, just gotta drill hole in the clutch pedal to secure it to the master cylinder arm and job done.

My '78 120Y didn't have a pressed indentation on the engine side of the firewall for the hyd clutch, it had a hole on the reverse side under the dash that showed u where to cut out the hole for the master cylinder. Piece of pizz.

Also noticed that the radiator mount on one side is sheet metal that unbolts making the radiator area much bigger, I guess for the L series radiator....

Damm I love Datsuns!!

Also paid for my stumpy skyline 5 speed along with the rear end from the same MR30 Skyline.

Sweet disc rear end for my 200B SSS. Woot!!!

The Stumpy box will go behind the z22 that is going into the 120Y.

Goal for this conversion is September.

Things done:

Installed custom engine x-member to fit L/Z block into 120Y

Installed 180B front end with MR30 Skyline struts and brakes

Installed Hydraulic Clutch

Things yet to do:

1) Re Tap 2 x stripped threads on P/side of front end to secure to chassis rails and replace split pin holding steering linkages to steering box (note to self this is VERY Important!!!!)

2) Source L20B engine mounts to sit the z22 block in the engine bay

3) Source appropriate OR mod original sump pickup from z22 to fit front sump orientation

4) Sit engine and box in car to measure tailshaft and get custom one made.

5) Connect ignition and gauge wires

6) Engineer.

7) Enjoy the torque of a 220Y

I think I can get this done by September as long as sourcing the bits doesn't take too long I guess.

Bloody cold Sat but nice Sunday, got some work done, finished hydraulic clutch install and started measuring up the A14 for a rebuild. Also ripped an 18RGEU out of a mates hilux for rebuild as well as doing a much needed cleanup of the parts shed(s).

Its awesome having an engine crane at home... hmmm what engine/car combo can I try today???

Using the 720 gearbox the shifter pops up right in the middle of the original hole. Had to remove some of the emissions stuff to fit around the clutch master and brake booster but seeing as I'm eventually putting an L20B head on the z22 block with a suck through turbo they had to go anyway.

So I'm getting there, just got tax return sent off so I'll have the $$, and now I've got all the parts (well all the big stuff anyway) it should come together fairly quickly.

Here's hoping anyway!

I rolled the guards but something is still touching somewhere that I'll work out tomorrow when I get it running and go for a drive.

So 10 months later and the Y has just been reinstated today for daily driving duties after the Mrs excel shat itself on the weekend.

Forgot how much fun A series engines are after the pokey 5k-is-gonna-bust-my-guts L20B in my 200BSSS

Not as fast.

But at about 4k it takes off and spins nicely to where I let up at 6.

Needs an idler arm bush as it does the ol turn left after full lock left right after full lock right but have a spare at home.

The MR30 brakes are real nice, prob need to give em new pads/discs but that can wait.

I've also bought an ex rally engine to go in this baby - Worked A87 Head (Big bore gasket port size (38mm??) and full on port job on the rest, valve guide bosses or whatever they're called, they're almost not there, looks very expensive.) Unknown rally cam - 74 or 76 I was told, Z22 bottom end.

So I need to install that then get a tailshaft to suit. If the stock Z22 fitted then the L headed zed with a single DHLA 45 will fit fine for daily duties.

Oh and I am still gonna turbo this with the suck through setup from earlier in the thread, just have to wait till I get another daily
