cheers 3rotor you have been a big help

I have heard of people going with a turbo off a diesel, for the simple reason that they are designed to run hard all day every day, but they use different seals in the turbo.

As for pistons you can get them machined so theres a dish in them, rhis lowers the compression ratio, it looks like this-

You don't have to do that you can just use a decompression plate between the head gasket and the block.Standard piston are fine for a low boost set-up, 8-10 psi should be fine. there is about a million ways to do it just depends on your cashflow. What are your plans? just a hot streeter?

yea pretty much just something fun to drive and plus it would be a good learning experience by building the motor ,
Wat do you reckon would happened if i didnt dish the pistons or decompress the motor serious issues ? not sure but do forgies drop the ratio

as i said in my last post you don't have to dish the pistons, in my turbo set-up i have just used a decompression plate and the head has been so the compression ratio drops a little more. i have heard of people running a stock standard engine with a turbo, and it runs fine with a few modifacations.

forgies aren't needed, stock piston work well for boosted applications up to about 12psi.

here is what the Langley pistons in the block look like after the 3mm mod.Open in new window

hey 3 rotor that motors comming along really nice.

Cheers steveo ur a big help mate , i now most things but im trying to learn more into the technical side of things. with the pistons how much should they be dished out you reckon 3mm like 3rotor .
with your plate is that just like a spacer between the head and bloke?

you'll have to go and see an engine builder, he'll machine the piston or they'll get them machined for you.

Decomp plate is 2mm thick and yes itt goes between the head gasket and the block, paid $90 from my local engine builder.

I plan to take the head off in the next couple of weeks(if i can time off work!), i'll have to take a pic of it to show you.

ok kool that would be really good
thanks steveo
ill probably dish the piston and run chrome rings should hold the boost , if they dont just gett stronger ones lol.
i prefer going this way instead of the plate not that im saying its a bad idea , which im not

ok guys another question , where can i get my oil lines for the turbo . is it as easy as getting the in line from the oil sender and putting a t peice then putting a fitting on the side of your sump for the oil to dump back into the motor ?
