yep then go the the base model cig its fine for the panels just make sure you clean the metal up before using it. o and one other negative about them is that its about $25 per roll of fluxed wire which doesnt really last that long compared to a gas one which is abut $10 per roll

do a tafe cousre
then hire an oxy set for a few weekends

If this is Australian for " take a class and rent a welder" then , yes, do that.

There is an equipment rental place around here that rents a gasless wire feed welder for about $50 a day. If you've prep'ed everything before, you can easily knock out more than $50 worth of welding in a day.

as frank said the little migs are ok but just with only 2 settings its a little limited, sometimes u want something in the middle. u can control the heat by moving it closer or further away. low is ok just for panels, but u might find after putting the plate in on low heat u run over it on high, so get good penetration and a little extra build to grind.

the low setting is ok for datsun panels if u hold the torch close, get gloves of course. practice on old panels cut a peice out and then weld it back in. keep wet rags to cool off as u go so dont warp it all.

doing a course...yes for mig maybe but for oxy and tig course then hire an oxy set???,
oxy on cars went out with the ark, even for shrinking, and mig welding is much simpler i reckon u can pick up enough tips here.

Ive used plenty of expensive migs with complicated menus of functions and the little cheapie does the joib enough if u not depending on it for your living.

If u spend 3-400$ and it dies after a couple of cars that u would have spent 3-4000$ at a panel beaters its even been worth it.
