I think we all(car people)know how to fix most of our so called problems,i'd also suggest a good many pollies would also know, but the bottom line is that they(pollies)don't want it fixed cause it generates too much income to be messed with. This may sound cynical but consider for a moment the funds pumped into consolidated revenue thru the motor vehicle usage within our states and teritorys.

Until a replacement tax is dreamed up nothing will change except the fines will keep increasing.A classic example of my theory is Australias water usage,we are all told to use less water as we hav'nt enough to go around,so being good citizens we all turn off, kill the grass and gardens and generally make do with less.Congratulations say the authorities you have done well, however as our fixed costs for running the water grid have not changed and you are using less we will be charging you more for each litre you use so our margins can be retained and our public service sector maitained at an increasing rate.
The most recent car/driver safety talkfest held in Brisbane a couple of years back had all the boffins in attendance plus several other well meaning speakers, including Dick Johnson (like him or not)armed with all manner of ideas/concepts/facts...he and others where basically laughed out of the talks...by the end of the talkfest the only tangable thing to come out of it was an increase in fines to the then Beattie government and now kept alive by constant auto related increases by our very own Capt.Bligh.
Yep that'll fix it

Hoon laws are there for a reason,to stop death and injury not only to drivers and passengers but also to innocent road and footpath users.
Now i am first to agree that these laws are by no way perfect but something has to be done.
Our countries leaders have got it wrong in that they think driving a vehicle is a chore ,most of us enjoy driving and driving towards the limits of ours and our cars capabilities.
Shouldn't there be a push to drive to the limits in a controlled environment so that everybody can 'hoon' and not have to worry about damage to others and property.
As prime minister Bob (I want that job as much as being shafted by John Holmes)I would actually toughen anti hoon legislation but woud make sure no child lived in poverty(sorry wrong PM Bob).I would also make sure all drivers have access to a driver facility with proper tuition so that they have an alternative to street hooning and no excuse to be doing burnouts outside my house at 2 in the morning

Cheers
Bob

what ####s me about these "hoon laws" -as has been said it takes 1 or 2 young drivers to street race or just do insane speeds, crash kill a few of his mates that were in the car or kill himself and other people and then all of a sudden the parents of these kids that have been killed become experts on road safety all because their kid was killed by their childs mate.

also i got a MY02 wrx just b4 xmas and immediately i was tagged a hoon - jokingly by my mother in law - but even that serves to prove that if you are young and get a car with power - your a hoon. Now my mother in law was not being serious when making the comment to me - i have a great relationship with her and when she is serious about something i will know, but i dont drive like an idiot or a hoon in this car or any car for that matter as i always have the kids in the car and there is no way in hell i am going to put them in danger.

so a hoon is just a person (of ANY age) going out and doing complety stupid things in their cars - moded or not - regardless of what licenses they hold - and if u get caught you pay the price.

and as for Finland i am so amazed at the way they train their drivers i am totally impressed with it all.

I am not suprised the govt hasnt thought of doing this tho the govt is packed with a bunch of dickheads who wouldnt have a clue

most of the time it is just whinging about 'injustices'
like the recent case of "boo hoo waa waa im an awesome driver but got booked for doing 170 in a 100 zone."
the laws are there, and probably there to stay. there isnt much we can do about it except take responsibility as an individual for your actions.
car enthusiasts will always be looked upon as hoons because of a minority who think its ok to act the goat, so we have all been tarred with the same brush now.
get over it, it aint gonna change.
