dunno, sounds like we had better get over our big ute egos and buy a girls car.

there is of course the theory that they once owned a ute and regret the day they sold out.

by 1200wag on 2009/2/2 9:28:57 I have to say that based on my experience I agree totally with DAT12T. I love all datsuns but have you ever seen a nice original 1600? I don't think they exist anymore. As a project prospect they're very hard to find in complete original condition. Let those guys have their 1600s, leave us the mighty 12s

Yeah - I have to agree here, I haven't seen a nice stock 1600 on the road in ages. I still see plenty of 1200s around (mostly utes). I love all datsuns, not just 1200s, but I must admit that if I was looking at buying a 1600 I would actually buy an old BMW!! You can get them for chicken feed and Datsun just copied the BMW 2002 with the 1600. The BMW 2.0L M10 engines are tough as nails, put out 125hp stock and can take a turbo with no dramas due to forged internals. The turbo 1.3L version of the M10 made 1500hp in F1... don't think the old L-series (as much as I love them!) can match that kind of track record!

No one tells you to put a CA / SR or rotary into your classic BMW

I once owned 2 utes, they were the most overpriced bog-filled rustbuckets I've ever owned. Once I sold them I spent much much less and got much much more in the way of a 120Y.

Well Datsun Karma stikes again.............I washed the 1200 yesterday and though gee we have had a "why would anyone own a 1200" post in ages and well here we are then.

The problem with the 510 / 1600 beyond it looks like a caboose but not quite as pretty is that car magazines went on and on about them so some kid whose Dad couldn't afford girly mags only had car mags in the bathroom.............so naturaly they attract tossers. And of course Mum may have had a Honey Bee B210 leaving the boy dateless during the formative years as no Gal wants to be seen in a Honey Bee on Prom Night so further adding to their social ineptitude and if by chance this lot managed to come into money they ran straight out got a 240Z , polyester slacks, gold chains & B-Gees 8 tracks......sad really. So as you can see those with breeding and taste clearly choose a 1200. (how's that for insulting half the Datsun World).

errr basically 510's are mainstream and like anything mainstream you get non enthusiasts buying them.

Tom
