That's true... but mostly because BMW motorsport were too busy turning their new (1974) 3 series into this...

In any case... it speaks volumes that I am currently driving my 1200 coupe, while my '78 323i sits in the shed!! The 1200s economy is just too good, and it's just too much fun to drive (and no 1600s for me... the 323i kicks the crap outta that... just as light, 150hp stock, solid build quality - the 1600 is a billy cart by comparison).

I have owned some sort of Dtasun in the past 22 yrs and I think they are all individually unique. After having 1600's in the late 80's and early 90's I then drove a bluebird turbo for 5 yrs and then drove a 1200 ute for 11 yrs which I still own. The diference between the old datsun owners compared to the new generation is I find that not many new generation are doing a lot of the work themselves and in particular the 1600 owners but are happy to pay someone thousands of dollars to modify or paint there car for them and then either sell it half finished or straight away becuase they lose interest. The reason I have kept my 1200 ute is to try and teach some basic automotive knowledge to my 8 yr old son so he can learn to appreciate classic cars.

but seriously i don't understand the whole i only like one type of car thing, it seems very narrow minded.
and i bought a 1200 ute because i loved the look of them and my mate took me around the racetrack in his and was sideways everywhere with an a14. it is practical to an extent because i've driven it to the coast and you can fit everything in the back plus heaps of gear for other people but with the current paint job etc. i'm way to paranoid to park it almost anywhere lol.

Hmmmm, which is best, KB10 [1000 Coupe] or 1200 Coupe, ....... KB10, 1200, KB10, 1200. Ahhhh who cares, I have one of each.
The KB10 is [for me] the better 'project' car while the 1200 makes the better hack car of the two.

I suppose it comes down to the fact there are d1ckheads everywhere.

Someone post some cool pictures or something, hang on... I've got some new ones.

They''d be better suited to MG's or some other "classisc" car marque.

Man you are so right!

They are painfully anal about which factory options are on their cars, etc.....

MG's, old Austins...anything old, crap and British would probably do them down to the ground.

There are exceptions of course....

I own both a 1200, and a 1600.
I've not had too much attitude form the 510 brigade here in NZ, but our datto community is pretty close knit.
If you want to meet a pack of wankers, Z owners (with some exceptions of course) take the cake. They are a bunck of mid life crisis homo's. They''d be better suited to MG's or some other "classisc" car marque.

i never meant to love dattos... i was a torana lover. my car got defected. i swapped a 34cm #### T.V. that wasnt even mine for a 1200 sedan. sold the torry. after that i just kept getting 1200s. had like 5 different ones. then this a series love turned into a 120y coupe. the beautiful ugly! im sure if that first datto was a 1600 i would have had a heap and then ended up with a 180b or some other L car.
