Would have to say if you have the choice and the budget. The SR cause they stayed in production for longer. In my research reading peoples personal experience, forums etc. each to there own i know HA HA. Cant go Turbo on SR for engineering, well in NSW.

i you want to rego in WA cant have SR20DET.
SR much tighter fit. I personaly dont like them as they spit rockers out but they have an awesome cyl head and make heaps of power. CA is similar design to RB26 very compact and lighter but smaller and less powerful. so yes there are pros and cons dazza

SR20DET is a no go in WA. Falls way outside the guidelines (National Standards)
The CA18DET is right on the limit of the guidelines and is permissable in a 1200. However the engine will need to be stock at the point of engineering and rego. Then upgrade to the T28 turbo, up the boost and have some fun. The CA is a awesome combination in a 1200 and great fun. But not P plate friendly.

my CA18DET was stock was all stock cept 3 inch exhaust, pod and front mount cooler. went and got the standard computer remapped and it made 147rwkw on 11psi.
i am aiming for 180rwkw with my SR20 running same mods but at 14psi...

im in perth too im doing the sr20det ( s15 ) in a 1200 ute atm its still rego'd if i get a sticker ill be trying to get it rego'd i fugure if a mate can build a clubman and put a sr20det n pass pits i can work through the red tape . maddat in sa has a rego'd sr20det 1200 and a few other's
if ya wanna buy a motor and rebuild it a ca18det might be better for you or if you wanna buy a motor and drop it straight in a sr20det might be better eg ca18 is very old now ( 20 years ) You can view topic.
