I know this seems pretty random, but after starting to grind all the paint off of my car about 2 weeks ago, i seem to have been suffering the symptoms of lead poisoning. so my question is, was lead paint ever used on datsuns? more importantly a 72 canadian/usdm model.

Most acrylic, enamel and 2 pack paints contain lead, especially if the paint is older, the lead content will be higher. At the end of this year lead paint will be phased out and outlawed.
Lead is added to help with coverage on low opacity colurs such as red, yellow, orange and white.
I know PPG are currently trialling new lead-free formulas which we are using at work on our new trucks. [Kenworth]

Were you wearing any PPE?? EG? full length overalls and an approved respirator/mask?
To avoid the dust you could wet sand or consider paint stripper, but in a well ventillated area.

Got a chuckle with this one.Been dealing with this stuff all my life, mostly without any breathing gear(and i'm old)and no signs a any poisoning yet.
If your local vet told you this....find a new one!If sanding one car down without breathing gear caused lead poisoning, there would'nt be a painting related tradesman left in the world today.
Having said that, get some good safety gear as previously stated and keep yourself well hydrated.
