yeah if you spend enough time on polishing you can make them look a million bucks so personally i'd just try get one as straight as possible and not worry about how shiny it is. my windscreen wipers were a really dull almost matte silver but after about 3 hours each they look like mirrors now and my grille wasn't too flash at the start and is now a nice almost mirror finish. it does need redoing relatively often though.
